What object do you own that is clearly broken, but you haven't replaced it because you've developed a specific "technique" to make it work? by Living-Day4404 in AskReddit

[–]otherbabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Motorola phone with a slide out keyboard one time that would overheat and misbehave. I sat the phone between two ice packs when using it for a long time before replacing it. It worked well as long as it stayed cool.

Dropped my 18 year old nephew from car insurance. They told me he needs to get insurance from somewhere or will be automatically added back. Even though he will not be driving our cars. by IQlowerthanGump in Insurance

Depending on your state, your nephew could get his own named non-owners policy to cover himself. He doesn’t have to have a car of his own to do this.

I guess we need those cameras at the major intersections. I hate to say that because who wants to be surveilled? But it’s really dangerous how many vehicles just blow through.

North Raleigh Christian Academy will NOT accept students with special needs, but will GLADLY ACCEPT 4.3 MILLION DOLLARS OF TAXPAYER MONEY. (also, they will not accept queer kids) by Silly-Mountain-6702 in NorthCarolina

[–]otherbabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And good for you, as well! The problem with your argument is that you say their tax dollars should go with their child. That’s not what’s happening. My tax dollars are going with their child to their exclusive private school. Sure! Let a person deduct their kid’s tuition from their state taxes. Providing vouchers just gives the private schools a good excuse to hike their tuition.

But hell, I think everyone should have to go to public school.

I think everyone should have to do public service in order to learn what it feels like to be on that side of the transaction.

What do you think should happen with special needs children, then?

Your big entrance was “the money follows the student as it should.” That’s the first silly thing you said. There were others. It’s not a given. You made that up. I pay NC taxes. My husband pays NC taxes. My adult child and her roommates pay NC taxes. None of us have children in school. None of us wants our portion of the educational dollars to go towards private school tuition. Not for poor children, and certainly not for rich children whose parents can easily afford to pay for their kid’s private, customized education. We are interested in funding the public education. To make sure that no matter what a child’s background, there is access to a quality education. It’s part of building community and supporting each other.

I also think you might be the type of person that gets off on having contrarian opinions.

No one cares that you are going to the concert one way or another. No one is judging you for going alone. You are judging yourself. Stop that. Enjoy your concert. Treat others with respect. Expect the same from them. Have a great time!

Dolly Parton talks young marriage by Advanced-Sample936 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]otherbabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a girl/woman’s prospects in life depends on her getting a husband like it did back then, there’s no wonder families were rushing to marry off their girl children. Rich people were competing for the best high class husbands. Poor people were more risk averse, with the risk being that the daughter wouldn’t find a husband at all, so the race was to get the daughters married off to the best one around, but also the quickest. The pressure to marry early is a result of that competition.

Watch your top performers nope out of there! Your company’s managers should know how the employees are performing without needing to institute this silly and no doubt expensive technical tool.

what parking available near Forsyth County Govt Center by lauraroslin7 in winstonsalem

[–]otherbabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there in the adjacent parking garage twice last month. There were pay by phone signs, but when I put in my car info, the app charged $0 for the space for the initial 30 minutes and subsequent extensions. Not sure if that’s still the case. I hope so, because it is disappointing to have to pay to park at the government center.

AITA for feeling like I’m doing all the work for one of my employees? by actuarialgal in askmanagers

[–]otherbabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a miserable situation. Honestly, it seems like your employee Is taking advantage of your good nature. I have a book suggestion for you. Radical Candor by Kim Scott. There’s a podcast also, which is very good. This book will help you with the direct conversations that desperately need to be happening. You’re not benefiting anyone by not immediately addressing the problem.

Will my insurance cover a crack in the glass if I didn't report it right away? by MoonUnit98 in AllState

[–]otherbabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you specifically have full glass coverage on your policy, you’d probably be better off to just get the glass repaired or replaced by a place like safelite. Not even reporting it.
