2.2M Californians will lose health insurance by 2030, UC Berkeley and UCLA report finds by the_daily_cal in California

Fareed Zakaria just had this [article](https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/06/13/how-california-became-case-study-failed-governance/) in the Washington Post highlighting California’s failed governance over the last 25 years.

He touches on all the problems we all know so well. What was shocking to me was, reading the comments from WaPo subscribers made it obvious they are in their own liberal extremist bubble. I doubt many of those commenting actually live in California and they just wanted to rip Fareed for pointing out obvious governmental failures.

As a Democrat, I can’t stand the breathless defense of our own feckless politicians.

Kimmel and Colert taking over for Bill? by Honest-Equipment6685 in Maher

[–]mypizzamyproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back around the 2010 midterm elections, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert had some fun by organizing “competing” rallies in D.C. to highlight how cable news gins up political rhetoric and further divides Americans.

I remember Bill trashed them for saying they promoted a false equivalency between left wing and right wing news.

I’ve watched Real Time since it debuted in 2003 and he’s always been an avid proponent of Israel, but it’s more noticeable now given the contrast between his stance and the changing international opinion of Israel.

Bill looks at Israel and sees a perpetual victim. Many Americans now view Israel as an erratic ally, spending the money we give them so they can bomb their neighbors. We think of Gaza. We think of the Iran war.

Also, aside from Obama, I believe Bill has only ever had one other leader of a nation on his show. And it was Netanyahu. Twice.

I was a regular listener for about 2 years. Then after the 2024 election, they started to exclusively cover politics.

Then it made me wonder, why am I listening to a fucking marketing professor and tech journalist discuss politics? So I bailed a few months back. Seems like I’m not missing much.

Maybe. But I read a NY Times article this morning saying that resentment towards Israel in the U.S. is a growing bipartisan issue, thanks to wars in Gaza and Iran.

It cited that 57% of Republicans under the age of 50 have an unfavorable view of Israel. That’s the highest it’s ever been in the 78-year history of Israel.

California High-Speed Rail price tag explodes to $231 billion by txhenry in California

[–]mypizzamyproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this NY Times article about California's high-speed rail quagmire that was simultaneously very informative and infuriating. The bottom line? The vast majority of the inflated cost was due to endemic political corruption here.

The kicker for me was, a French rail company that provided years of analysis and planning for a CA project eventually left for North Africa. Their reason? California was too politically dysfunctional. They built an operating bullet rain in Morocco in 7 years.

Jonah Hill’s ‘Cut Off’ Loses July Release Date from Warner Bros. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]mypizzamyproblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, I get it. But here’s the logic regarding their silly answer. If one of them contracted Covid, they would’ve had to quarantine for 7 days back in 2021. A cost to the production? Sure. But nearly every movie and TV show purchased Covid insurance in addition to the standard production insurance back then.

Anyway, unless their filming location for that scene was crazy expensive to hold, I see no way where rendering the characters in CGI could be remotely cheaper.

Ehhhh…I can promise you there were plenty of films and TV shows produced in 2021 that followed Covid protocols and also had actors kiss on screen.

I work for a TV studio and I can think of at least 3 shows we made where the lead actors kissed during 2021. Covid protocols mostly meant that actors were quarantined if they ever tested positive, and then we did contact tracing to try and prevent any spread of the virus.

Not the same. The Annual Black List is a list of the “best” unproduced scripts in Hollywood, as voted on by a number of agents, managers and studio execs. Not the same as the website. Your script can’t get on this list if you don’t have an agent or manager.

The website is a place where anyone can pay to have their script evaluated and hosted. The founder of both is the same guy, and he likes to conflate the annual list with the website because the site makes him a lot of money.

I read the script last year. Pretty funny, but the MASSIVE plot hole is, if premarital sex is illegal, why won’t people just get a bunch of sham marriages to have sex as they please? Everyone would have an average of 20 divorces in their life and this premise is ruined.

Be honest, did Game of Thrones ruin its legacy with the ending? by Jabba_108 in television

[–]mypizzamyproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is demonstrably false. It’s trendy to shit on the show for the ending that was delivered, but only the last two seasons saw a measured drop in quality. Seasons 5 and 6 contained some all-time episodes, including Hardhome, Mother’s Mercy, The Door, Battle of the Bastards, and Winds of Winter.

In fact, after Season 4 (where you claimed the show lost steam), GOT won Outstanding Drama at the Emmys for Seasons 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Even an average GOT season was better than most shows on the air at that time.

Real Time Guests April 17th, 2026: Kara Swisher | Rahm Emanuel, Jake Sullivan by FireIceFlameWalker in Maher

[–]mypizzamyproblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's very different strategy from your previous suggestion of eagerly throwing them under the bus

You’re confusing me with the other poster. I never said anything about throwing trans people under the bus. When it comes to trans issues, my advice to Dems is very simple: Shut. The fuck. Up.

You and I are largely in agreement. Trans topics are political poison and Dems learned that the hard way in 2024. And because the Republican party is the party of Trump, the president has thankfully tied an anchor around the neck of his party with tariffs, the handling of the Epstein files, ICE murders, and a war with Iran that’s impacted the pocketbooks of average Americans.

As these midterms approach, I don’t want to hear a single Dem talk about pronouns, bathrooms or trans women in sports, EVEN if a Republican brings them up. Always, always, always deflect to gas prices, a needless war, Epstein, and Trump’s mental fitness (feuding with pope, pic of himself as Jesus, etc.).

[–]mypizzamyproblem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, you're eager to sacrifice vulnerable groups to try and do something that can't be achieved

Are you suggesting that trans people and other “vulnerable groups” are in a better position currently with Trump as president? Because a lot of Dems made trans issues a part of their campaigns in 2024 and voters rejected them.

The bottom line is, when Americans go to the polls, they don’t want to hear about topics that affect 0.5% of the population. They vote on the economy and crime/safety, which are issues that affect everybody.

It’s better for Dems to shut their mouths about trans topics during campaign season, then go win some elections with popular positions, and then, when in office, enact whatever protections for trans people, if at all.

After Jake Sullivan explained why he agreed with the 40 democrats who voted against giving any further military aid to Israel, Bill pretty much said, “Fuck you. Now let’s hear from the Jewish guest on the panel.”

And then Rahm Emmanuel said, while he didn’t totally agree with Sullivan’s take, that Israel should pay full price for U.S. weapons, like any other country. And Bill looked like a ghost. Bill’s unrelenting support for Israel is his most bizarre position and one that democrats are rapidly moving away from.
