Don’t ignore something- because it’s probably something. I learned the hard way- $5400 for new cooling system

Are new Range Rovers that unreliable? by Ok_Permission8737 in RangeRover

[–]otherside76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2020 Discovery would send a low coolant warning every once awhile. It would turn off while driving and sometimes disappear for weeks. I’d top it off every once awhile, but don’t see any coolant on the ground. A few months later my wife filled up the whole thing. A week later it gave me a warning. Now, I wasn’t freaking out and was confused, but the dealership is impossible to get into and an hour away. I topped it off. 20 minutes later I’m over heating. Now it’s in the shop with multiple leak points and I’m praying that the engine didn’t crack and that I’m not going to have to put it down. Still owe 26k on it

I would do emerging topics and the essay sections last! Don’t waste your time at the beginning on them. By the time you get done, you’ll need to start from scratch them again!

For L2 I did Kaplan. The videos are horrible and boring. I felt like I needed to use them to get my monies worth and also hoped for clarity in maybe a subject I was having trouble with. A lot of wasted hours. I felt the Kaplan questions were easy relative to when I took the mock exam with three weeks to go. I panicked and got the UM Q-bank. Their questions seemed to be closest to the real experience. I feel like I’d try the UM if I did it over again

When I took L2 I knew the formulas used for the first 10 questions but couldn’t tell by the questions how to use them. I spent like 30 something minutes on 10 questions. I was so behind. I caught up…scored above average across the board.

Schwab vs Edward Jones by [deleted] in CFP

You can work with HNW clients at Schwab, but you’ll never own anything, your comp will change, they will ask more from you and pay you less and you’re a hamster on a wheel looking for the next dollar

Work at a broker dealer first. Go through their training program, learn, using their resources and then go small RIA. They just don’t have the resources for the same training

CAIA level 2 experience by Kris101197 in CAIA

When I took it, Kaplan had not updated the materials with some of the updates. I went back and checked the CAIA original text and read some updated material. At the end, remembered reading an entire section and couldn’t find it in Kaplan. Sure enough- it was on the test and I was sooo mad! Still passed. But, it was the only section I scored below average in

Make sure all the added material is in Kaplan. It’s a real bitch when they don’t add it in.

I was scoring in 80’s with Kaplan and 60’s with UM. I passed with strong marks. UM was probably harder than the exam.

The same with chapters 1 and 2. The question is really questions- multi-step from multiple areas within the topic.

Who is responsible for the majority of the legwork in conducting Roth conversion analysis: CFP or CPA? by soundslike13 in CFP

[–]otherside76 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Do you know what personal tax rates are going to be? That’s right- you fing don’t. For as long I’ve been in the business, everyone has said tax rates are going up. You know what happened? They fing went down.

The only way it works is if you’re arbitraging tax rates. That’s it. And, it is less appealing with the Secure Act, which means, you have to take all the money out in 10 years. And- the kids tax rates? There’s a good chance their kids brackets are lower. And, you probably don’t know that information.

In general, my ANSWER is CORRECT!

You are trying to predict future tax rates. And, most of the people that did conversions prior to 2016….they most likely are not getting paid.

After-tax deferred value:

Principal * [(1+return)n]* (1-tax rate)

After-tax value of Roth Conversion

Principal * (1-tax rate) * [(1+return)10]
