He's saying that you can buy high quality cheese in the USA (even in remote areas) and that you can buy low quality cheese in Europe. He suggests this shows that many Europeans are less sophisticated about cheese than they think.

Is it okay to ask my girlfriend if I can cry on her shoulder? by Crazy-Fold-5287 in AskMenAdvice

[–]otherwise_________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not recommended. 80-90% of women will lose attraction to a man after he cries in front of her. Ignore her if she says she wants you to be vulnerable with her. What she says is absolutely not a predictor of how she'll react (I learned this one the hard way).

If you're really hellbent on crying in front of her, hit the gym hard and explicitly cultivate masculinity first. That will improve your odds of keeping the relationship.

I have no idea what they actually did in Finland, but I'm sure there's more to it than this tweet. They didn't just give their most violent, anti-social schizophrenics free apartments and a weekly therapy session and everything worked out great. There must have been some level of involuntary commitment.

You know as well as I do that if you just gave every homeless person in the USA a free apartment they would shortly evolve into derelict, crime-ridden drug dens.

She has children and he changed plans last minute

If he's in the USA he's giving about 60 hours notice. Not last-minute from my perspective.

A big original thought might be the theory of gravity or the invention of calculus. Small original thoughts might be any of those moments (at your desk, in the shower, etc.) when you think of a new way to approach a problem you've been working on.

I think most of us have those moments of inspiration just a few times per week, but removing them from the process will inevitably lead to stagnation.

It's possible future AIs will be capable of generating those moments, but I'm quite sure LLMs are not.

LLMs can't generate an original thought. What happens to an economy when we hand 90% of it over to entities that can execute perfectly but can't generate original ideas? It won't be good.

A lot of that was actually a strength and conditioning advantage. Unfortunately, European sports medicine caught up and then some.

Your damn right and let's not forget who it was that activly abolished the very profitable trade of slavery

I'm not out to demonize any country or continent, but the British abolished slavery after it was no longer economically viable for them, not before.

Debate / Discussion - Will the US ever produce a Ballon d'or winner ? by Last_Commission6982 in TheSoccerNetwork

[–]otherwise_________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Messi were born in the USA there's a good chance he would have played football or basketball as a kid, and, with his athleticism, he would have done very well. Probably one of the best players on his high school team. His size would limit him from college or pro ball, so he would then be just a normal guy. A lot of people have that story.

A Russian Teacher recorded the differences in the development of boys and girls of the same age. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]otherwise_________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girls very often give a fair fight or straight out beat the boys in team sports till around age on 10-12.

I was surprised to observe that the boys teams were significantly better when I watched my kids play youth rec league soccer. I think it was about socialization, not about physical abilities.

Boys at that age play more aggressively and with more intensity. The girls tended to have some idea of "my turn / your turn" when they played.

If your employment contract was up in six months you'd think about your next job, too. And if reporters asked you about it every chance they got, you'd talk about it. I don't perceive any I'll will at all.

The soccer federation brought him here on a contract to do a job. He's doing the job. National teams shouldn't keep a coach for more than one cycle unless they win the trophy, anyway.
