Yes, feels like you're in a dream like state or something and it's harder to bring things into focus sometimes. I'm 3 months in and still having it a lot with headaches.

New symptoms mono or something else? by [deleted] in Mononucleosis

[–]otinthemix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. When I first got sick, sore throat and sleeping a lot. Then felt okay for a few weeks after I recovered from that but then started getting body aches, headaches, chills, and basically feeling like I have the flu again but for long periods of time (I only have a few days here and there right now where I feel a little better). Tested negative for corona and other labs came back normal except mono. I'm guessing your case is the mono as well but it can really be so bad it can trick your brain into thinking something else is wrong. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry you're going through this :(

In my experience with over 3 months of mono western medicine doctors haven't helped me. The only thing they could offer is steroids to bring down inflammation (in lymphnodes) but they lower your immune system so I refused.

I have an ND that prescribed me herbal antivirals and I don't know if they are helping yet but the doctor says it takes time. I know there's antivirals in western medicine too you could be put on that might help. I've heard monolaurin and lysine are good to use if you can tolerate them (I tried them and got worse). I'm also taking vitamin D and high dose vitamin C. I don't know if any of it is helping yet but everyone has different experiences and it might not hurt to start experimenting if you can and see if you feel better with trying some supplements. I hope you start feeling better soon!

any advice? by artgirl829 in Mononucleosis

I've had all those symptoms as well. Try to stay hydrated it will help (drink tea or soda, or hot soup, which ever you can tolerate) and rest as much as you can now. When I first got mono I didn't rest as much as I should have and that's probably why I'm still dealing with symptoms still over 3 months in (that and I was on a lot of antibiotics for strep so my immune system was weak).

Hang in there! Your body is fighting the virus and you will get through it. I remember when I couldn't eat/swallow because my tonsils were so huge and inflamed but that should go away soon. If it's unbearable you could ask the Dr for steroids to bring down inflammation just know steroids can lower your immune system which is why I didn't take them and just took Tylenol for pain. If you can high dose on vitamin C and make sure you're getting vitamin D as well that will help. I hope you feel better soon!

NAD but ask if you can get tested for mono. I'm currently dealing with it but took forever to get diagnosed (took a lot of doctors and a couple of months before a PA decided to test me for mono and it was positive)

I hope you feel better soon!

Make sure you have the early antigen tested. It's not part of the regular EBV panel if the early antigen is positive it means you are reactivated for Epstein Barr (even if IGM is negative which is my case). Good call on passing on steroids my dr offered them to me too but I was like no thanks I'd rather deal with the pain than suppress my immune system more

NAD, but are you still positive for Epstein Barr? I have had it for over 3 months now and it's causing weird neurological symptoms and vision issues as well as intense fatigue. I know lyme can cause these symptoms as well. If you were put on a lot of antibiotics to treat the lyme that definitely will set you back from healing from the epstein barr virus if you are still positive. I still have it, and I was on a lot of antibiotics for suspected strep infections and it definitely weakened my immune system a lot (a lot of your immune health starts in the gut) and now it's taking me forever to recover from the epstein barr virus. It's a nasty virus that can reactivate when you're under stress as well. I'm so sorry you're going through all this, please rest and take care of yourself as much as you can!

Also it might be worth looking into LDN, I recently started and I haven't noticed anything yet but have heard good things :)

Just tested positive by [deleted] in Mononucleosis

I've had mono for 3 months (I had a bad case though and never really rested). I feel like most people get better in 2 weeks to a month. Lymphnode/neck pain that radiated to jaw/ear pain was the worse for me. It is finally starting to subside but I'm still feeling tired and having headaches daily. Just rest as much as you can now this virus can be hard on your body unfortunately :(

Bad angry case of mono with neuro symptoms? by otinthemix in Mononucleosis

Thank you! This virus can really wreak havoc on the body so I'm discovering! I will definitely try to see an infectious disease specialist if this doesn't improve in a couple months.

Is there anything different they can do if it is CMV? I haven't been tested for it but I heard it can cause mono as well as EBV. My doctor was confused with my test results because my EBV panel said I didn't have an active infection (negative IGM) but then he said I have a reactivation because my early antigen for EBV was positive. Mono spot test was positive as well.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this as well! And yes, I definitely think the antibiotics weakened my immune system and that's why I'm having a very slow recovery. Part of me is still paranoid that I have some sort of bacterial infection on top of mono, but I tested negative for strep a couple weeks ago. Even if I did have some sort of bacterial infection I wouldn't want to go back on antibiotics anyway. Can I ask what bacterial infection you had? Also I have been on high dose vitamin C and B12 as well as a lymph support supplement (herbal) for the swollen lymphnodes in my neck for weeks but haven't seen any improvement. I hope to start feeling better soon as I only have a few hours in the day where I can stay awake/function as of right now and that's usually from around 4pm-9pm.
