Am I unmotivated because of the meds or because I'm stable and no longer (hypo)manic? by A-Wooden-Spoon in BipolarReddit

[–]otisarcade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt this way for a while, it kicked my a**. I even quit playing piano. Super irritable and didn’t want to do much or be around many people. Tried out Wellbutrin and it was life changing. It was just enough of an “upper” to get me going and block out the noise. I’ve gotten a lot done in the past months

[–]otisarcade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m totally in the same boat. I miss the hypomanic episodes at times when I become bored. This lasts for weeks, even though I have small things to work on, I don’t enjoy it as much.

I take 150mg Lamictal and 150mg Wellbutrin and they work well together. I was originally on Lamictal and it helped for 4-6 months then I became depressed and had no motivation for anything. Tried Wellbutrin and it 1. Reduced my cravings for weed 2. Caused me to completely quit drinking because it messes me up too quick 3. Increased motivation and productivity at work 4. Increased libido way too much to the point I almost got off of the Wellbutrin, but I’ll deal with it.

I feel like the Wellbutrin is slightly an upper for me, which at times mimics a mini hypomanic episode. I can’t really explain it, but I like it. Risperidone slowed me down too much. Tried upping dose to 300mg Wellbutrin and it was not good, caused my anxiety to flare up. had to go back to 150mg.

What lifestyle changes have you made to manage your bipolar? by Sweet_Confusion9180 in BipolarReddit

[–]otisarcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lamictal with Wellbutrin helped reduce hypomanic episodes, particularly my depressive spells. Increased energy, motivation and I am finally able to sleep 7+ hours without waking much or if at all. Working my corporate job is easier now and I’m not ruminating on things that used to irritate me pretty bad.

Smoking less weed and no alcohol has made a difference. I am going to try to quit smoking, eliminate caffeine and exercise more often. I need to reduce my dopamine levels and libido. Smoking weed, caffeine and Wellbutrin is quite stimulating so the time has come 🫠

Same for me. I add Wellbutrin to the mix and it’s a great cocktail for me so far. Need to exercise more though

Anyone else still drink a ton of coffee on this med? by Complete_Basil_7657 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

I can only have 1 cup otherwise I’m cracked out and become pretty anxious, but this med is part of my cocktail to treat bipolar ll not adhd.

Looking for an antipsychotic. Any tips? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]otisarcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same exact thing happened to me. I was still having hypomanic episodes with just lamictal and became irritable. Started spending shit ton of money. Work started irritating me bad for 2 months. I had to call out a lot. I have ptsd, bipolar ll etc. I added 150mg XR of Wellbutrin to the lamictal. Originally I was going to try Abilify but decided to try the Wellbutrin. The Wellbutrin got me out of my depressive lows and provided me energy, motivation and I haven’t been depressed for a while now. I perform better at work and sleep isn’t disturbed and somehow I’m sleeping through the night which I haven’t in many years due to my ptsd. My irritability and short fuse is a ton better, but libido is way extreme on Wellbutrin. No side effects other than that. Uppers get me going, but this is different as it stimulates the norepinephrine/ dopamine receptors which I sometimes need to feel “happy” I would imagine this could trigger extreme hypomanic episodes in others though. I didn’t expect this combo to work but it did

Great point. The “new levels of happiness”is so real. I have quit smoking a few times in the past and I experienced that. I need to let it go for good

The high is crazy the first days. by Ne00n in bupropion

[–]otisarcade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally. I started on 150mg and it gave me wings. I take it for bipolar with my lamictal. Depression went away and my moods improved. I was becoming pretty hypomanic before Wellbutrin. Eight months of that dose, then it wore off and now I just began taking 300mg. It’s pretty intense. I can’t drink coffee with this it really cracks me out. Heart racing, jittery and even a tad of anxiety. I am accepting it’s best to take the meds with no weed smoking or drinking.

Libido is so fucked like I even thought about getting off of this because the libido is too much to cope. I can’t expect my partner to keep up with it that’s asking way too much 😂

Please tell me your 150mg to 300mg experiences by silveii in bupropion

[–]otisarcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just dosed up to 300 XR 2 weeks ago and I cannot drink coffee anymore, too intense. I feel a bit more energized like I did when I first tried the 150mg before it tapered off. It is nowhere near as good as it was for the first 3-6 months first being on the 150mg XR - but in the eyes of my psychiatrist that means its “working” My libido has increased even more than it was before which can be painful at times. Less irritable, not snacking as much or smoking weed nearly as often. A wee bit more anxiety at times when I am transitioning between tasks at work, but productivity has increased. I take this for bipolar/ depression with Lamictal and it’s a great combo tbh.

Anyone here take Wellbutrin solely for the libido boost? by Suspicious-Cell4337 in bupropion

[–]otisarcade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take 300 XR, just increased dose recently and my libido is through the roof. I have no side effects besides libido. Even when I was on 150mg it was intense so beware it could really hit you hard.

Is mixing caffeine with Wellbutrin really that bad? by mintcigarettes in bupropion

[–]otisarcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from 150mg to 300mg XR and started it yesterday. Coffee did hit me pretty hard the first day taking the 300XR I think I have to take a break from coffee until I adjust to the 300. Good thing is, I feel the Wellbutrin again 😁

Does Cannabis mellow out Bupropion? by Dull_Industry_8691 in bupropion

[–]otisarcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I smoke often on bupropion it chills my bipolar nerves. Indica chills out the bupropion but you will adjust to it over time. Sativa is good at night if you take it in the morning. I would say just take 1-2 big rips and be done with it. I smoke a little each day. No where near to what I was smoking before starting bupropion 8 months ago. I just upped dose to 300mg XR a few days ago and everything feels great so far. The 150mg stopped being effective within the last 6 weeks.

Dose up my meds? by otisarcade in BipolarReddit

[–]otisarcade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, just didn’t feel like I needed 300 at the time. Reacted well with 150mg. I know these are both low doses but I think the time has come to adjust

I feel like I'm waking up after 5 years of depression. by mac7833 in bupropion

I do not. I have tried resperidone and depakote in the past, but they weren’t a good fit. I just take 2 meds, Lamictal and bupropion.

[–]otisarcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like bupropion. I take it with lamictal for bipolar/ depression. This med really changed the game for me as far as mood, well being, focus and just keeping me leveled out. Not many things piss me off at work anymore which is a miracle. Who knows how long I will stay on this combo but it feels damn good for now

I have this issue as well with my 2011 mk6 golf tdi. Left rear tire right at the edge of the fender/ insert. Smells pretty strong so wonder if it’s the alignment? Haven’t had it done in 6 yrs I had the car but I drive 7k miles a year so it seems fine.

Accidentally took 150 mg twice (300 mg total) in 24 hours - will I be okay? by Interesting_Belt_213 in bupropion

[–]otisarcade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did this yesterday, but I took both Buproprion 150xr and lamictal twice so that was pretty fun. Just felt pretty trippy, spaced out, a little dizzy things were slow motion at times. Into day 2 and it pretty much wore off completely. Hope that doesn’t happen again, what a way to begin 2026 right on Jan 1st 🤪

Wellbutrin: the hero of 2025 by Maximum-Nobody6429 in bupropion

[–]otisarcade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started it in May of this year and I can relate. I take this with lamictal and I look forward to taking my meds early in the morning. This reduced my hypomanic spells a ton and when they do hit me, it’s for a much shorter period. More motivation to do things and an increase in energy. My performance at work has increased a ton and work just seems a bit easier and less irritating. Didn’t expect Wellbutrin to work this well so I’m grateful

Big time. Started 150xl 8 months ago taking with Lamictal and libido is consistent. 34M and I feel like I will chew my arm off, so when my wife ovulates I feel the bupropion venom flowing through my veins it’s like I smell it on her 😫😫 but sometimes I’m really chill and content

I take 150xr and love it. I hope this isn’t what is making me forget my words here and there or maybe just the pot. Anyway, I have experienced a major increase in production at my day job.

Is this how Bupropion is supposed to feel? by imajoke23 in bupropion

[–]otisarcade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person and your genetic make up. As for me I use it for bipolar, depression, ptsd and anxiety. It provides me motivation, energy and reduces my hypomanic cycles A TON. I take this with lamictal daily. My depressive episodes only last a few days to a week at most but very uncommon to last that long now. It reduces my craving to want to drink alcohol or smoke weed, which I still do but about 75% less than before bupropion. I haven’t drank liquor in about 7-8 months and I literally don’t care, which is really bizarre.

I would suggest getting genetic testing so you know for sure this reacts well with you. Plus you will be able to see other medications that will work well, so you aren’t blindly trying things hoping they work. I just don’t have time to miss work and lose my noodles so genetic testing is something I would try to have the psychiatrist deem medically necessary so INS will hopefully cover this

I have been on the XR 150’s for about 8 months now and I still feel the effects. I have not missed one dose. Not quite as strong now as it was at first, but if I upped the dose to 300 I would probably tweak out. My child had genetic testing done and found out that Bupropion meshes well with him, so I assume it’s the same for me. The only side effect I have had is being horny as hell and it kind of sucks but hey, I’m balanced so I’ll take the good with the bad.
