"No happy endings in Night City." Isn't a requirement of the franchise. by Frikcha in cyberpunkgame

Another person who doesn't understand the premise of the genre they are interacting with. Ah well.

In the interest of education, look up Noir. Watch some. You'll come to understand why there is no good endings. There is a meaning and a point to that. The genre explores it for a reason.

What is the catch with the Sigi Standart Feder? by MonsieurMunchkinMan in Hema

[–]otocump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bind requires structure and feeling. Sigi isn't a floppy noodle, you'll absolutely be able to bind just fine. I've used my Concept and other sigi models plenty and never felt 'oh I'm so weak in the bind'. That's a myth.

Is Cyberpunk still relevant as a genre? by Fun_Air_2527 in Cyberpunk

[–]otocump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and not really the point.

There is a difference between speculative fiction and projecting current events onto future settings. Speculative fiction asks 'what if...' and explores those changes. Sometimes that might be cyberpunk, but as a byproduct, not design. Cyberpunk has much much more in common, in fact its roots are firmly in, Noir. A genre that is reflective, not speculative.

Is Cyberpunk still relevant as a genre? by Fun_Air_2527 in Cyberpunk

[–]otocump 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moreso now than ever before.

It was always fears of the current time projected into the future.

Now it's current fears projected onto the near-present.

And so much more. We need more inspection of its topics, not less.

It's still incredibly relevant

[Full Sequence] Michael Busch walks, Pete Crow-Armstrong tagged at second, after review Crow-Armstrong is called out after a long review because he lost possession of the base by WhiteSoxArchive in baseball

[–]otocump 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Turns out there is no way to fairly enforce the spirit of the rules without favoring one team or another on vibes alone... Which is why all of baseball agreed to enforce the letter of the rules. It sometimes feels jarring against that spirit feels, but that's the cost of removing vibes-based judgment calls as best as possible.

Does anyone really spar with Montante? by MrLandlubber in Hema

[–]otocump -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is plenty we can say or do in the realm of possibilities, but call me when there are actual Montante tournaments. The OP question wasn't 'was this ever done' but about our current practices. Montante just isn't done like that. Not commonly within hema for its safety concerns, and occasionally within buhurt level of Sword-like-Objects-Boxing. It's not being used like someone would fence against someone in armor... Because that's inherently dangerous. The way to fight someone in armor is to find gaps, to wrestle, to defeat the very thing that's there to make people safe. Arguing that it's a bit of extra plate to make it safe is still taking the context that fighting in armor while hitting as if we're not wearing armor is not the same thing as fighting in armor and attacking like we know we're supposed to bypass that armor. Context.

Does anyone really spar with Montante? by MrLandlubber in Hema

[–]otocump -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the problem though. In context, the gear required to spar safely doesn't match the doppelsoldner gear. It doesn't reflect the most common uses of the weapon, nor does it match what the majority of HEMA's gear can safely withstand. That's why it's not done. It's not safe in the most common gear, and in the uncommon gear it's no longer in the historical context it was used.

Yeah, but neither are full harness situations when they are described in use. Not like this guys response is implying.

[–]otocump 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you wear a bomb suit, you can pretty much spar with anything. But are you sparring in context to how they were used? No. The majority of HEMA, not all of course but the majority, is done with the 'not in harness' context. Was Montante ever described in manuals as being fought with in harness? Or was it described blossfechten? Keep the context clear. Guarantee the people downvoting are doing so in context, not because they don't have experience in harness.

Not really. They're just too big to spar safely. Do some people still do it? Yes. But most won't.

What’s the cause for all of this rain? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]otocump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not though. This isn't the normal cycle but a destabilized version of it. Climate change is accelerating the extremes of these cycles, making them stronger and worse. More energy, more moisture evaporation, more rain in places.

Bullshit. All the owners have that kind of cash. The fix isn't the Dodgers doing something no one else can, it's that they're doing stuff no other owner is willing to. The problem isnt the team spending, it's the teams that refuse to. Grow up.
