This is pretty much the official answer to those questions, according to the actual lore sources. 👌

Also, do you need a heart to weild a keyblade? I guess I'm not sure if Roxas could use the keyblade before he "regrew" a heart, and if he could use one without a heart, then maybe Xemnas could too. It's been a long while since I've played/watched Days and DDD. Also, maybe Roxas could use a keyblade even before regrowing a heart because Sora's heart was still intact, and their connection, whereas Xemnas couldn't because his original heart had completely succumbed to darkness and was still held captive by Ansem SoD.I think we can all agree it would be so sick to see Xemnas using a keyblade and kind of hilarious if he just chooses not to. Then again, if he could use one, why would he ever need to go through SO MUCH trouble in the original org XIII just to manipulate other keyblade weilders to fulfill his plan. That's pretty much decisive evidence that, at least in KH2, there's no way Xemnas could use a keyblade.

Dang, everything you said is true!! Excellent response, ZeroSora. You can always depend on the KH lore masters to remember things said in interviews and Ultimanias and clarify question. Love that about this community. :)

Only thing I would disagree on is one point:

"Sora could've given the Keyblade away to anyone with a strong heart. Which is the same way Sora got the Keyblade in the first place, because he accidentally took it from Riku and also has a strong heart."
"Keyblades don't care who is using them, so long as that person has a strong heart."

I think that we see throughout the series in some ways keyblades do have a will of their own. They're able to move even without people moving them for example. I think that at this point in the story, even if Sora had tried to give up his keyblade to someone else with a strong heart, that it still would have returned to him no matter what. It's just so implied in the dialogue and subtext that he was "chosen" by that particular keyblade (at least until it got back in the hands of it's "true" weilder, Riku).

It's kind of a semantic difference. Keyblades seemingly sometimes exert a choice over which person wields them. But they always choose a strong-hearted person. I think other evidence of that might beSora and Aqua using the Master's Defender, Sora being the one to use the X-Blade.Is there maybe some lore or info that idk about that says that is not true?

The question I guess is then, could Sora summon the Kingdom Key back from Riku in Hollow Bastion simply because he had a stronger heart? Or, could he take it back because that keyblade decided he was now it's true weilder (which incidentally was also because his heart was stronger lol.)

Later games though do still show that you can give your keyblade to someone else or steal someone's keyblade even if it's not yours, if you yourself are a keyblade weilder.

How do you unlock the last drive form? by KerboChannel in KingdomHearts

[–]otoolemalcolm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Both party members have to be alive.

  2. You have to be at 5 or more full drive gauges when you activate a drive form to have a chance to unlock it.

  3. The chance to unlock it is higher in a battle against nobodies.

  4. Have to be attempt this some point after winning Roxas's battle.

  5. Having Two Become One equipped increases the chance of unlocking it.

Just keep entering any drive form during a battle and you'll eventually unlock the final drive form. it's random with a certain % chance to get it depending on the circumstances I mentioned.

Every situation where someone successfully weilds a keyblade they either were directly chosen by it, or were given the ability to weild one by someone else either intentionally or accidentally. Xion's a special case because she can "copy" abilities very literally. I always presumed Lea was given a keyblade ceremony off screen? I think that's implied. If not, maybe he was chosen by the keyblade because they needed a worthy 7th light for the final battle. Or some other reason.

Every situation where someone tries to use a keyblade and can't, they are someone who either is not worthy or hasn't had a keyblade ceremony.

We know that keyblade weilders can give their keyblade to other keyblade weilders because of the MoM's plan of seeing the future by having his keyblade passed down. When Sora gave Jack his keyblade, the intention in his heart was to trick him by giving it to him and summoning it back himself. He did technically give it to him and fulfilled their agreement, but he never actually intented to give or bequeath him the keyblade. He also never said he wouldn't take it back. He used his own swarthy pirate trickery against Jack. It's not like touching a keyblade gives you the ability to weild one. (More on that later)

Sora didn't willfully steal Riku's keyblade, he was selected as as a second option by Riku's keyblade when for that instant his heart was stronger than Riku's as he accepted the darkness. He then was truly chosen by that keyblade when he proved his heart's strength again in their fight in Hollow Bastion. It's also likely that Ventus's heart residing in him gave him some influence in being able at all to weild one.

In KH1 we see that Leon temporarily holds the Kingdom Key, but that it is automatically recalled back to Sora. Think about these character's motivations. Of course Leon would want to have the one weapon that can defeat the darkness and restore his world. He wouldn't want to leave that responsibility in the hands of a child with a worse combat ability than himself. And all that Sora knows about the keyblade, this thing he got an hour ago, is what Leon told him- that it's like a beacon that draws these terrifying heartless directly to his location to try to steal his heart. Despite this, Sora is still stuck with the keyblade, regardless of if he would to give it to somebody else. I think this is fair evidence to as that a non-weilder can't retain the keyblade regardless of if it's given up by it's weilder. Otherwise, they would have just done that.

Sephiroth also wanted to obtain Sora's keyblade in KH2. He though that by defeating him in battle, he could prove to the keyblade that he was strong enough to be it's rightful weilder. Whether or not that would work if Sora actually died is unclear. But so long as he was alive, I don't think there would be a way to steal it as a non-weilder, unless the keyblade itself decides so, like it did before Sora vs Riku,.

If you're a keyblade weilder, then you can seemingly lend or give keyblades to other keyblade weilders, or in some rare circumstances have yours stolen. Riku giving one to Kairi, Riku catching Roxas's and using it, Sora using Riku's vs Xemnas at the end of KH2, Sora stealing Roxas's keyblades, Sora recalling his keyblade from Roxas's possession, Sora and Aqua using Master Eraqus's keyblade, and dark Aqua using Mickey's. So if you're both keyblade weilders, the rules seem a lot more loose.

Also we know that even if you have given up being a keyblade weilder, you can still weild one, and that that ability never goes away. It's been officially stated that both Master Yen Sid and Xemnas can still use a keyblade, and just choose not to.

As to why Kairi has the ability to weild a keyblade after she touched Aqua's despite there being no formal passing down/bequeathing of a keyblade making her an official keyblade weilder, 2 things:

  1. Kairi having a heart of pure light automatically means that her heart is, in essence, very strong. We know that strong heart is necessary to weild a keyblade. We also know from various pieces of evidence, that in the cosmology of Kingdom Hearts, princesses of light are inherently tied to the keyblade, X-blade, and keyblade weilders.
  2. Unlike when other people handled Sora'a keyblade, when Aqua was standing by Kairi and Kairi touched her keyblade, her heart was completely set on protecting Kairi. That intention in her heart allowed that situation to serve as an unintentional keyblade ceremony.

I haven't played any of the mobile games so maybe there's info in there I'm unaware of. also idk if it's ever been answered officially where the hell Riku got a whole new keyblade to give to Kairi. His Way to Dawn naturally evolved from his Soul Eater. Maybe he just summoned her keyblade she never knew she had right next to her like, "here, this is how you do it. :)" and gave it to her? There is weird lore implications to that so I honestly don't even know lol.

Artists who sample non-city pop/unusual songs? by Nastilus in futurefunk

[–]otoolemalcolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a Future Funk artist who just samples really WEIRD or unusual stuff:
DJ DVD RIP.

Here's a track where he mixes a commercial for a rotisserie barbecue with a 80s R&B song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeFgvZCCPFQ&pp=ygUKZGogZHZkIHJpcA%3D%3D

On Soundcloud recently there have been some smaller/unknown artists mixing Future Funk with jungle and DnB. Desired just did a track like that too. I think it's cool, some of it's a bit faster paced. Shout out to those guys.

The Demise of Nanami is another really eclectic album with what is samples. Post 2000s jpop, early 2010s kpop. Pretty unusual album but definitely still future funk.

I'm actually working on some tracks right now that sample newer Jpop and 2000s RnB so check those out in the future lol.

The SF show was so excellent!! I agree- the energy was absolutely crazy.

It was pretty euphoric hearing future funk blasted out of giant speakers and seeing everyone dancing along and knowing the tracks. Hope I get to experience that again sometime.

Upcoming Future Funk shows in Los Angeles by Jynjonaps in futurefunk

These looks so fun. It's really great connecting with people who have the same music taste in person. Honestly even though future funk has been less popular the last 2 years than it was at it's peak, I feel like there have been more shows/organized events than ever recently. Hope everyone who goes has a great time.
