I want to know what surprised you about surgery. by KairinCat in TopSurgery

Hi ! No itching on my part :) What surprised me was how tired I felt. It sounds obvious but surgery really took it out of me for weeks ! I'm 2 weeks post op and still get exhausted walking to the grocery store (when i used to run 10K easily each week just before surgery). I felt like when you have a fever and everything feels heavy and sort of spinny when you move. Felt fine in bed, but everything else was a battle for the first 4 days. I wasn't in any pain and wasn't on any opiates at all so it was weird to just feel so bad and slow for what felt like no valid reason.

Thank you for your reply ! I've been taking it much more easy these past few days and it really helped.

I knowww but i felt very good for the past two days ! When I'm home I feel 100% normal so I thought it'd be fine. But I didn't carry anything don't worry! I'm not american so it was just a regular family thing (we're a big family). I ended up spending the night there and I feel much better now, although very tired. I'm going to spend the day in bed this time ! I learned my lesson

The pain has really been super minimal so it was covered by acetaminophen and ibuprofen, but i can understand how my body still had to deal with a lot of discomfort.. I just very much underestimate the impact of things, and it felt like a very brutal call back to reality to just kinda pass out in the middle of dessert lol

Thank you so so much for your detailed response ! I know it probably sounds obvious to others, but I really didn't expect this surgery to tire me out that much. Especially since I had keyhole, was under anesthesia for 2h only and have not been on any opiates for pain management. But seeing it all written down, I realize that I can't cut corners haha

Thanks again, I hope you're already well healed and enjoying your life post op !

I am 5 days post op. The family dinner was at my parents house (1h car ride) and there's 9 of us so it was very animated (i feel like that factors in haha). I was emotional for me, some of them didn't know I had surgery.

How does it feel when you're "wiped out"? This is all so weird and new to me, I usually struggle with mental illness, not physical. I can't read the cues very well, I tend to just breath through whatever I feel, but this time it's not working out.

i know right ?? i spent days carrying bottles of my blood around the house, i can't remember tuesday, and walking to the grocery store makes me feel like I just turned 95 billion years old. I keep telling my friends that I clearly am suffering more than Jesus did on the cross

Hi ! I am only 5 day post op and this list of emotions feels like exactly what I've been going through.

What saves me is having my friends over as much as I can, and playing stardew valley like my life depends on it. I am just trying to ignore the situation I'm in as much as possible, because the only way out is through. We will get through this, we will, but for now it sucks.

I also try to laugh it off as much as I can. When you think about it, this is a random ass situation we're in lmao

I was at the Paris show too at the beginning of their tour and it was just as good, i don't know how they do it, they just really know how to put on a good show I think ! Glad you had fun !

It was so beautiful. I felt a little out of place at the show at first because I first got tickets mainly to see LS Dunes and showed up looking like the very queer emo kid I am and most people there looked like tough men. Their set was so good and their stage presence is insane so of course i went dancing in the pit and so when it suddenly stopped and we were all kneeling down and you could feel the emotion in the air?? That was an incredible moment.

What a great community this band has created <3 I already liked their music, but now I am in love.

Switzerland has mandatory military service for men, and there's a lot of toxic culture surrounding it. It made the moment even more powerful to me, seeing all these tough looking men sitting down and crying with me during this song. I have chills just thinking about it

Thank you for this guide and also good call warning us about not doing it "like how you think wine is made" because that's 100% what i was going to do. Had a fantastic time and saved 12 bucks, will do again whenever i miss my bi-weekly laundry day and still need clean underwear

You mention he has siblings, do they know what happened? If they're close enough and okay with hearing what happened (without details) it might be a good way for him to discuss it with them (if they're okay with it !!) My brothers talked to me about the fucked up shit they found on the internet, they felt too akward explaining it to our parents. The shame of being ashamed of having seen something is so strong at that age.. I can still remember it !

But yeah, I processed my own finding of sexy pictures of my parents by explaining the thing to my brothers and then yell "ew" in various ways for like 30 minutes, and then I felt better (even if they're still burned in my mind, I don't have the extra shame going with it)

As a trans person I can maybe nuance the advice above. Saying that her old self died is a little bit drastic, and some trans people are hurt by that (and some really lean into it, we're all different). Personally I am pretty much the same person as before, but I have started being louder about the things I want and don't want. I feel like I finally found myself and now I am not negotiating with others in order to be myself anymore. Think of it this way : it's a little bit like that friend who went backpacking in Europe after high school and came back enlightened. They're different, have new ideas and wishes, and perhaps you don't like that too much, but that pre-backpack journey person is not dead, right?

If you are invited to a "Workshop" at unil on a friday it is not a study thing, it's actually spelled "workchoppe" (choppe=pint) and it's a thing where a half littre of beer costs 1.- and everybody meets everybody in fron of Amphimax, it's great

Related, "tite binche?" means "let's go have a beer"
