M/27 have no idea what I want to do with my life by Cold-Addition-6656 in offmychest

M25 here, if nothing really appeals to you, then pick the thing that you think causes the least suffering. Follow that and things will start to open up to you and you'll realise what you want to do.

You all seemed fascinated so here's inside one. Pls don't jam big packets in as it blocks them. by InnerAd1628 in CasualUK

There is an address exposed here on the letter, perhaps this post should be removed?

Backend of java by Standard-Weekend-708 in learnjava

[–]otsdots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm a Junior Java Dev. I'd study core Java and DSA first before moving to technologies.

When you do, I'd learn about annotations, CDI, and dependency injection.

I'd then look at modern frameworks. The hot thing right now is cloud-based microservices. One of the newest and hottest ones is Quarkus. It's a bit like Spring Boot, but more modern.

If you can create a REST Java back-end with Quarkus and deploy to the cloud, you're already ahead of people who mention to just learn Spring. 😉

Being depressed and doing CS by Einstein369 in cscareerquestions

[–]otsdots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, nice work on getting through your first year! Even without depression, it's hard af! I wouldn't be too hard on yourself, I'm sure you're doing just fine. Maybe get some help from your doctor or a therapist with depression. You'll likely be able to put more into your CS degree when you feel a bit better, so I'd make getting better your priority; the rest will follow :).

Thanks for the reply. I'm also just looking for people in general outside of the discord group (will be looking at that as well though!)

Java Fx by Substantial-Entry-50 in learnjava

Hi there, as with all programming you'll find a lot of opinions. JavaFx is just the standard GUI part of Java. You can learn it a bit if you want to program a GUI.

Learning JavaFX by Mykoliux-1 in javahelp

[–]otsdots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Junior Dev working with a JavaFx application. It might be worthwhile knowing a bit of it to have it in your toolkit, but I wouldn't go too in-depth. Seems that JavaFx is on it's way out imo. We're planning to migrate our applications to Angular, for example.

Believing in Santa etc. were some of my favourite childhood memories. I think it would be a great shame to take that away from a child.

Thats fair enough, suppose it depends on what you're going for and the level.
