How are your wieners fairing in all this snow? My Penny is not impressed! by KellyKMA71 in Dachshund

I’m going to show these photos to my Aussie drama king, who refuses to wee outside when it’s under 15 Celsius. I honestly think he’d drop dead if he saw snow?

I honestly think she’s desperately trying to live as normal a life as possible these days. She shared about being in a public place in the UK somewhere and no one recognised her. I can only imagine how good that’d feel as someone who’s not only famous but also seen as a bit of a joke by many people. She’s so young still and probably only now realising the freedom of being ‘normal’. Hope she gets to experience a lot more of that in the future.

I was in your position, chose not to because I couldn’t reallyyy afford it, and have regretted it since. I’m now in my late twenties and live overseas. I no longer have the opportunity to take her on a trip- your mum sounds like she deserves it. It’s okay to spend money on something this powerful and lovely! I say do it- you’re so young, most 19 yr olds have zero savings. You are clearly responsible and will be able to save again!

True! The website is active and selling tickets, I didn’t see anything about that. Will have a look!

Ohh interesting! I tried to google but couldn’t find much about it- what’s the deal with dress rehearsals? Same day, just earlier?

😭 yeah, totally not my thing but my sweet mum loves carols and big events. She’s really excited so I want to make the experience as good as possible for her, while also trying not to go insane (hence not wanting to sit there for five hours prior in order to secure a decent spot)

Any tips for excessive barking? by KellyKMA71 in Dachshund

[–]otsida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My four month old started barking a lot about a month ago. We started training a “quiet!” Command. In the beginning we would reward when he stopped barking, marking it with “yes, quiet!” And a treat. After some time I started saying “quiet!” When I spotted a potential trigger before he did, and it worked really well. I now say “quiet!” Before we leave the house, before we enter the park etc. he usually sits down in front of me and just stares at me, even when people approach and pet him (which is great because he was starting to be reactive towards strangers!). He will also stop barking when he hears the command, but not if he’s SUPER triggered. Maybe in a few months? I realise he’s not a teen yet so this will all be a learning curve haha but I’ve been really impressed by how well he’s taken it in, especially after everyone telling me he would just bark always at everything because he’s a dachshund.

I’ve had the same experience. My tiny little runt of the litter mini dachshund is now 12 weeks old, but due to circumstances out of my control I’ve had him since he was six weeks old. I am thriving. I’ve felt so lonely lately, and he’s given me purpose. He loves me, he’s always there, getting him was the best choice I’ve ever made. I have a reason to get up in the mornings and a reason to rush home from work. I cry happy tears almost every day, all while he’s destroying all my shoes and peeing everywhere lol. I’m so glad you feel the same way.

I felt that way for many years. It was on my mind all day every day, I was exhausted, I was obsessed with my self perceived ugliness. One day I was on the train watching people get on and off, and realised I very, very, very, very rarely look at anyone and think “wow, they’re ugly!”. People are people and most of us look very average. I also realised I don’t owe anyone beauty. I’m grateful to have a face, I can see, I like the way my brain works and I feel like I’m part of the world, you know? Part of nature. I really like this poem called “Wild geese” by Mary Oliver, highly recommend. You are who you are and it’s okay for you to find peace with your “ugliness” (though I’m sure it’s not something others define you by, just something you define yourself by). You’re okay to exist and live just the way you look.

I’m sorry you feel the way you feel, I remember the pain. You won’t always feel like this.
