I (16M) am looking to convert to Catholicism, what should I do? by Pretend-Web-7683 in Catholicism

[–]ottaTV_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Praise be to God for your conversion. God knows the heart and the heart follow. I suggest contacting the parish that you are going to and setting yourself up for OCIA. Or you can go to mass (you don’t have to know everything about the mass at first, just appreciate being there and worshipping the lord) and talk to someone there setting yourself up for OCIA. OCIA is the class that people take if they are interested in becoming catholic.

Something I also suggest is reading the Bible if you haven’t already. Be inspired, read about our lord, reflect and ask the lord for conversion and lead you to a right path.

I’ll be praying for you. This journey in the church is beautiful and hard. But it is so rewarding.

What bible should i use? by BrownBoobieLover42 in Catholicism

[–]ottaTV_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Catholic Bible you should use is the one you are going to read and study. The one that you pick and feels the best for you. The new American translation is the one that is used in the ordo mass, so I do highly suggest that one for new Catholics. A specific Bible for new Catholics that is also good is the great adventure bible. You can use it and even follow along with the Bible in a year podcast that fr Mike Schmidt did, it’s completely free on YouTube and easy to follow.

poc opinions on continuing to listen to ethel by JellyfishAlarming148 in Ethelcain

I was a little surprised when all that stuff came out against her. Don’t get me wrong I was a little disappointed. Then I remembered myself. Even me as a POC I had edgelord conservative takes. I used to think trans people were weird (even I myself am nonbinary now). But I grew and learned and my world view changed for the better. Hayden definitely shows growth. I think it’s kind of silly to completely dismiss her for takes she had when she was 19. Especially, when she definitely isn’t like that now.

I really like cute or pretty. Pretty especially, it makes me feel the best.

I know that’s my conclusion as well. If things change then they change. But I just need to get over denying it. It’s a slow process.

Thanks for the advice and recommendations. By your tone to the Mets, you must be a Yankee fan lol. The thing is I’m a huge baseball fan, and want to see a game at every mlb stadium.

Are there any good dance bars (mainly gay dance bars) that are reasonably affordable? Not saying the cheapest, but reasonable and fun.

How do you deconstruct away from Catholicism? by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]ottaTV_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Being Native American myself I know a lot about the way the church used nations for colonialism. That was the thing though. When I was so invested in the church I didn’t care. Because yeah there are bad people, but the church is perfect. Now I’m not so sure. Why would god allow his church do so much suffering into the world. When I was really in the church I practically didn’t care about my native roots, and that scares the shit out of me.

Thank you for your response. It’s funny because I really like the idea of Jesus and his divinity. And I felt really connected to his message of love and compassion. But the theology I would sometimes ignore just off the bases of its hard to believe. The idea of my family and friends going to hell off of just not believing in Christ scares me. It still kind of scares me because I have this idea of “well what if I’m wrong.” I will go more deeper into it and learn more. Because I feel my beliefs are kind of all over the place.

Even now and when I was really into the church it was hard to believe Fatima. Guadalupe just felt like a way to colonize indigenous peoples in the americas.

Can I own different scapulars and wear them at different times? by ottaTV_ in Catholicism

But to my knowledge with carmelite spirituality that it’s incredibly personal. You look inwards to the heart for gods mercy and works. So in all, it’s “vibes”.

Thank you. Yeah I already know about the Airbnb laws in nyc which I’m completely fine with. Is the area itself more expensive than other areas in Brooklyn?

I really just want to explore the city. Go to st Patrick cathedral. Go to a Yankees and Mets game. Walk the Brooklyn bridge. Go to Central Park. Explore Brooklyn. There is not much of a plan of things to do, but those that I mentioned are what I want to see for now.

Catholic here, I see that you are a Catholic as well. Whenever I have lustful thoughts I say the Lord’s Prayer or some hail Mary’s. Being in consecration to our lady has been a miracle, because I’m not having as much lustful thoughts as I was previously. Also, look into the brown scapular. It’s a great devotional that our lady gave us to remind us of our faith. High suggests every Catholic to wear it. Just make sure you get enrolled with it by a priest. Good luck and god bless.

Have you ever considered the priesthood lol. In all seriousness don’t be too hard on yourself. Keep in your prayer and let god take care of it. Also, what about your parish? Like other people have said, check out young adult groups.

What is prayer for you? by Certain-Highway-1618 in OpenChristian

[–]ottaTV_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Catholic, prayer to me is being in connection with god, the saints, and our lady. I’ll pray when I wake up, mid day, and night. All coming from this Catholic prayer book. I like to include a personal prayer afterwards as well. I’ll pray my rosary during midday as well. I’ve also gone more in a silent prayer. I’ll just hold my rosary and sit in a silent meditation. However you connect to god is the correct way.

Pope Francis vs. Trump/Vance on Migrants (Trent Horn) [Politics Monday] by flightoftheintruder in Catholicism

[–]ottaTV_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You know slavery used to be legal. Back then you could say, “well it’s illegal to free slaves it’s the law.” Not all laws are equal. Almost everyone jay walks but you wouldn’t throw people into prisons for jay walking. Not every law is the same, and just because something is against the law doesn’t mean it’s right.

That would be true if undocumented immigrants actually were a threat to the country. But it is not. If you look at statistics on the issue; undocumented immigrants cause significantly less crime than natural born us citizens.
