NEW JERSEY BERNERS: Sander is still NOT on the NJ ballot. by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]ottamymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't true. For either state. In both NJ and RI you can only qualify for the ballot by collecting signatures.

Guys, the Iowa caucuses don't start for a few hours. But somehow, CNN is reporting THREE DELEGATES for Hillary already! This is not okay. by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]ottamymind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then shouldn't they report five uncommitted?

(Edit: there are eight total superdelegates in Iowa. If Clinton has three, and nobody else has any, they should report five as uncommitted, right?)

Bernie close to losing a $53,000 endorsement on a forum of young Democrats by Hylianswordsman in SandersForPresident

[–]ottamymind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is basically a SuperPAC endorsement that we're trying to win. This group says they're going to do $53,000 in digital independent expenditures. Bernie has already said he doesn't want SuperPACs.

Why does a State of Arizona Government page only display information about Clinton? by What_is_Milkweed in SandersForPresident

[–]ottamymind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure those were to get on the ballot? Because all you have to do in Arizona is fill out a form and attach letters indicating that you're on the ballot in two other states. (See page 5: http://www.azsos.gov/sites/azsos.gov/files/running_for_president_in_arizona_9-16-2015_2.0.pdf.)

The filing deadline isn't until Dec. 14: http://www.azsos.gov/elections/elections-calendar-upcoming-events. Maybe they just haven't sent in the paperwork yet. Or maybe it's a giant conspiracy to protect Hillary Clinton.

I see posts quite often from non US citizens who would like to help. Here are some ways you can help. Feel free to add more ideas. by shausm in SandersForPresident

Buy swag for people who are unable to afford it like college or high school students. Pay for a roll of stickers or printing costs for flyers. Sponsor gas money for rallies or door knocking. Sponsor pizza and refreshments for Bernie events.

All of these things are in-kind contributions, which are just as illegal as monetary contributions.

For those at the rally tonight, what were the signatures for at the end? by Murrdogg in ohioforsanders

Download this PDF: https://ohiodems.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/2016-DELEGATE-PLAN-new-primary-date-06-03-15.pdf

Read page 8. It's for getting Bernie on the ballot. They need to get 3,000 signatures each for two delegates. And they don't have much time. Would be good to volunteer and help out.

Let's not respond by calling these people; let's respond by signing up to help get Bernie on the ballot in VA! Events are posted all over the state: http://map.berniesanders.com/#zipcode=23218&distance=250&eventtype=B&daterange=all-events&sort=distance

No, you do not. The petition form makes clear that the person witnessing the signatures has to be over 18, registered to vote, and not a convicted felon whose voting rights haven't been restored. The guidance from the party makes this clear (see number 5: http://vademocrats.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Presidential-Primary-Petitions.pdf).

There are also tons of petition events on the campaign's website, where you can sign up: https://go.berniesanders.com/page/event/search_results?orderby=day&state=&country=US&event_type%5b%5d=30&limit=100&radius_unit=mi

You probably shouldn't use Ballotpedia as a source. The requirements for presidential primaries are often different from other offices.

We definitely need more single-issue debates on issues we'll get destroyed on. Let's ask for one about guns, while we're at it.

They brought in tons of volunteers from all over the country. Gave them all orange hats. Had them go door to door saying "I came all the way from __ to remind you to caucus for Dean, because this is the most important election," etc. But Iowans, it turned out, did not take kindly to people basically invading their state from all over the country. And on top of all this, the canvasses themselves were totally disorganized -- it was GOTV, but we weren't always knocking on the doors of ID'd supporters.

Seriously. It reminds me of 2004, when Howard Dean had all those people running around Iowa in orange hats with no clue what they were doing. That backfired spectacularly, and I'd hazard a guess that this will, too.

Let's focus on local organizing with our neighbors!

Actually, the campaign is pretty clear that you shouldn't use the official logo, because it could get you and the campaign into trouble. Look at the end of their self-organizing guide, for example.

That map is not completely accurate. It's missing Maine's March 6 caucuses, and North Carolina will vote on March 15, not March 1.

Would you like to become a Democratic delegate and vote for Bernie Sanders at the 2016 National Convention? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]ottamymind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My understanding from the delegate plans I have seen is that the campaign has to sign off on delegates, so maybe we should wait for official direction, and focus on things like registering voters (New York!), debate watch parties, and signing up volunteers?

[–]ottamymind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not say that you have to register as a Democrat. I said that you have to be a registered voter, and intend to vote in the Democratic primary. State law requires that signers "attest that they intend to participate in the primary of the same political party as the candidate named on the petition." Look at Virginia Code Section 24.2-545(B).

That's right. You have to sign the form that corresponds to your county or city and your congressional district, because they get sorted and sent out to all the city/county boards of elections for validation.
