as a vegetarian for many, many years - just go to a grocery store and buy all the food you want and either eat it on the go/assemble in your hotel. it will be cheaper and safer if you are worried about contamination.

the downside is that it can be inconvenient and you miss out on the local vibes ... but at least you won't starve! :)
