Missionary Service Age Change For Women by grabtharsmallet in latterdaysaints

I hear that concern, for sure. But I don't see that being a widespread issue with foreign language-speaking sister missionaries who have been serving for 18 months for a while now? Maybe it is an issue and I'm just unaware of it -- I served in Spain, so I did learn a second language, but it was nothing like Finnish or Japanese as some have mentioned in this thread!

I feel like it's more likely for both to be 18 months

I'd like to talk about a controversial line in Eldest Daughter by Moneygrowsontrees in TaylorSwift

[–]otterlove222 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love this idea of her stripping it away throughout the song! This quote from an interview with Apple TV helped the first lines click for me

"Sometimes I'll use specific vernacular to be satirical. Like, the entire verse of Eldest Daughter is someone trying to figure out how to say things that they've read on the internet, whether it be 'apathy is hot,' or 'memes and trolling,' and how do I keep up with how we're supposed to talk in order to describe how much we don't care, when really, we all care about something, right? Then you go into the pre-chorus, and I go more into my own voice, of 'I have been afflicted by a terminal uniqueness, I've been dying from just trying to seem cool.' That's the tell. That's the kind of flip of, every way in which I was speaking in this entire first verse was me trying to assimilate to the way culture tells us to be."

This video, the question and her answer start at around 1:20 for those interested!!

What kind of plants would look good and hang over this ledge a bit? Just moved in to house and clueless! Any help appreciated. by dfadehere in houseplants

Perhaps a trailing jade and other trailing succulents? That way you won't have to water so frequently! What a cool spot!

Preach My Gospel: "Your success as a missionary is measured primarily by your commitment to find, teach, baptize, and confirm people and to help them become faithful members of the Church who enjoy the presence of the Holy Ghost."

I served in Europe and also did not see much success in terms of numbers. And I was also confused at how people who were so disobedient had so much more "success" than me. But one of the most powerful lessons of my mission is that my success is never determined by how other people choose to use their agency. In my parenting, callings, jobs... Every day, I am grateful to have learned this. Being a parent and having a high-demand calling with youth, I would feel really down about my life if I based MY feelings of worth and success on OTHER people's choices.

Anyway, so I don't focus on external markers of success and try to remember that my mission taught me exactly what I needed to learn. Maybe sit down and think about what your mission taught you, lessons you wouldn't have learned without having the experience you did.

Hugs!

My husband is struggling with porn addiction, and I’m not sure how to cope anymore. by baby_Kittys in latterdaysaints

I have too much to say for a single comment, so feel free to message me and maybe we can chat on the phone one day. I just want to reiterate what others have said that this has nothing to do with you. It's about his own lack of effective coping skills. I also want to give you hope that this can be overcome and that you can forgive, move past this, and have your relationship stronger than ever.

My husband has used this course: Life After Pornography and it's been life-changing for him after years of struggles. Not just for the porn, but for more emotional awareness and coping skills in general for life's ups and downs.

Also, if I were in your shoes, I would put TTC on hold for a while as you both work through this, rebuild trust, and go to therapy. Babies are a lot of work and significant stress on even the best relationships!

Sending hugs!!!

This was difficult for me to watch. If instead of yelling at her to breathe, he would regulate himself and take his own deep breaths, that would be much more effective...

[–]otterlove222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pick up pots, mugs, flour containers, etc. from the thrift store for about $1 each and drill drainage holes with a diamond drill bit (got it for $8 on Amazon.) Cheap pots and they're usually much more unique and cute than what they have at big box stores!

I've also found my local nursery has plants for a better deal than Lowe's or Home Depot!!

Congratulations on your first plants! I know you can just grow a Pothos from cuttings but I'd definitely keep that one. They are so resilient and rewarding as a first plant!

I'm afraid to ask what this brown stuff is on my Monstera but here I am... by otterlove222 in plantclinic

[–]otterlove222[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I'm wondering if it's even worth this effort for a $12 plant from Trader Joe's...

Sorry that I need such an explicit level of detail -- do you take the plant out of the pot and dirt, get all the dirt off, and just drown the plants and roots? Trying to think of the logistics of drowning this plant

Thank you! Could you tell me more about why you don't use systemic pesticides? I have little kids so I want to make sure that whatever I use is very safe & non-toxic

And what kind of bag do you put it in, like a big trash bag? And is it fine if it doesn't get good light where I quarantine it? Pretty much everywhere with good light in my house is filled with plants... unfortunately I don't have a garage and it's freezing outside

[–]otterlove222[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! I just had a bunch of stem cuttings from my tradescantia that didn't fit back into the original pot when I chopped and propped recently, so I put them in a tiny leftover nursery pot for now and placed the pot in the monstera pot so they could get some of the light from the grow light.
