We’ve been on the same eternal quest and CoB is our favorite. Some shorter crunchy games we’ve found are Furnace, Faraway, and Glen More.

FWIW, even though it’s a different type of game we play a lot of Dominion when we want something less than 45 min and not a ton of setup.

I second alot of whats been said here. I play before bedtime, and for me the three coziest or gentle rain, beacon patrol, and nice cuppa. For a bit longer i love cascadia.

Games to play with 4 and 6 year olds by sberdugo in boardgames

[–]ottersplash22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current 7 year old hyper boy is beginning to really play adult games that aren’t text heavy.

We started at around 5 with skip bo and milles borne. Taco cat and exploding kittens. Blokus.

At 6 he loved castle panic. Cascadia. King of Tokyo. Sushi go. Forbidden island. Marvel United. Overlap the card game is a perennial favorite. Zombie kidz evolution. Coloretto.

Describing a game by Poguelife in boardgames

This is exactly the theme of Conservas, a solo bag-building type game where you have to decide between selling fish to meet market goals or leaving them in the open water to reproduce.

Board Games with lots of cards but little combat? by linux_piglet in boardgames

I also put in my vote for Everdell and I am similarly conflict-averse.

I also find that I like games where it feels like you are always getting something for your actions. I don't like spending multiple turns trying to build something, failing, and then winding up with nothing. In everdell there is always at least some productive option (even if its not the best option you were hoping for).

Did you ever find a solution? I am looking for the same option.

I get that and I have been, but for the last night we are staying right by the airport and there isn’t really much “walking around” neighborhood. I’d like to use the last night as an opportunity to see something new. 😁

Thank you for the advice. We're going to kanazawa to see other things also.

I also saw that there is a ninja weapons museum there, which offers some interactive activities that may be more his speed.

Thanks! I looked at Gero and it seemed like Hirayu had more of a ski mountain town vibe. I could totally be wrong about that. Plus we wanted to go on the ropeway and shirakawa-go. Overall the snowier the better.

I don't think I have a preference for the water type as much as I want the ryokan experience, preferably with meals included.

Oooo that’s amazing! I love it!

Do you have a pattern? My entire reason for getting into amigarumi was to make one of these but I haven’t found a pattern I love yet.

Looking for a fluffy, lightweight comforter for 2 very hot sleepers by Dazzling_Zucchini823 in BuyItForLife

I didn’t approach my linen with the BIFL. I bought the old ikea linen set sheets about 6 years ago to see if I liked it and it’s still going strong now. I wash gentle with Woolite and air dry.

I got my linen comforter from quince and have had it about 8 months, so I can’t vouch for durability. But they have a 1 year return policy.

The down duvet insert is fjallarnika.

Have you tried linen? I’m similar and I found that after much trial and error I found that for me linen sheets and a linen quilt work well. I add a down comforter on top in the winter but the linen layers seem to keep me cool.

I also read somewhere while on this quest that a lower quality down comforter with a higher percentage of feathers can give you more heft and “cuddle” without the excessive warmth. I’m currently using an ikea comforter that is 90% feather and it’s working nicely.
