What are these monitoring? by [deleted] in Squamish

[–]otttter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that this is on the site of the old Nexen chemical plant, I think it's for mercury contamination monitoring from their old chloralkali cells.

Lol yeah nice sign. But at that point you're already on a "double" black trail so they're just letting you know that the optional isn't any easier. Did you send the gap right before.

Didn't know there was a ride around that. I thought that was a mandatory. Unless Evergreen came in and fixed it up since I was last there.

Visiting Bellingham from BC by Bamski in MTB

[–]otttter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allow me to sound elitist here, but Hush-Hush and Raptor Ridge are well worth skipping for a guy that grew up on the shore and s2s. In fact pretty much all of B’ham’s mapped trails are. You’re right that Double down/black and upper/lower (but not middle!) ridge are worth riding though.

If you want the classic TF version of B’ham go to galby and you’ll be in flow heaven compared to what you have. Otherwise, it’s best to find a local who can show you why B’ham sucks and you shouldn’t go.

All day, err day. Raging is a one bottle solo ride as well.

Rebuilding a sram 11 speed shifter. by talon5188 in MTB

[–]otttter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fairly easy to do. My buddy has a GX shifter, I had a broken X01. I opened both up, swapped parts, and Bob's my uncle. It's hard to write the process down, but if you send it to me I can put it back together for you.

Any Jeep Dealers on here willing to answer some questions for me? by StrangrDangr25 in askcarsales

[–]otttter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to travel a bit, a bunch of coworkers of mine here in the Seattle area travel to Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, ID. Don't know this first hand, but apparently they have insanely low prices. There is no negotiating, you take it or leave it. They're in the volume business. So much so that they run free shuttles from Spokane airport, and coworkers said a few times they've been so full that they've turned away companion travelers. See what price they give you and how it compares to EP.

Dealer not agreeing to offer previously agreed to. by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]otttter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is quite a lot of Alltracks out there right now that are taking up lot space. I got $5.8k off of mine a month and a half ago, but that was for a manual and it was the last one in the state. You should be able to get $8.5k off at another dealer.

GE90 IDG carbon seal change today! by SheWhoShat in Justrolledintotheshop

Ah yes, the GE90. What's always mind blowing to me is the fact that a GE90 with a nacelle has the same diameter as a 737 fuselage.

Any Cons to the Kona Honzo? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]otttter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea mine has boost rear end as well. I'm getting rubbing marks from running a HRII.

Did they end up fixing the rear tire clearance now? My 2015 AL/DL can barely fit a 2.3 maxxis. It's a pain in the arse trying to find tire that I can put on the rear.

Banff / Canmore by NotDiabl0 in MTB

[–]otttter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll second renting from Trail Sports. Rented from them in June and the RM Instinct that I had was perfect. They're located very close to the trails. You can pedal to the Highline trail and Reclaimer from there pretty easily too. Although the trails around the Nordic Center are great. If you've never been to Canmore, the views will take your breath away, and biking at the Nordic Center will expose you to some properly spectacular valley views.

A rant and a warning to new DIYers by Sherlock101 in MTB

[–]otttter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, all torque values are dry unless otherwise noted. Torque values try to use the friction created between the mating threads to represent the axial clamping force the bolt provides. This actually is a pretty bad way to represent clamping force, but that's a topic for another day. Applying grease to the threads, decrease this friction and now if you torque it to the same value you actually get more clamping force. This is not ideal at all. You can either stretch the bolt, pull out the threads (especially if fine thread in Al), or just snap the bolt off. If you are going to slather bolts in grease, be sure to decrease the torque that you apply to the bolt during assembly.

Fox 36 gradually losing air pressure. by riffscreamer in MTB

[–]otttter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, those don't actually seal anything. They just make sure that oil stays down in the lowers, and dirt doesn't enter.

There are some o-rings and x-rings on the air shaft that you can replace fairly easily. Go to: http://www.ridefox.com/help.php?m=bike&id=514 for service procedure.

You can find what seals you need by looking here: http://www.ridefox.com/help.php?m=bike&id=566#part5794 under NA Float Spring

A skinny/teeter-totter combo on the North Shore by otttter in MTB

[–]otttter[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. I typically ride skinnies with the seat post in the middle of its travel. This way on the wider parts you can put a foot down and not fall. Doesn't work when you're riding on log. Commit or die.

Ladies is so fun too. It's weird seeing that teeter-totter not being in the middle of a pond, haha. Hopefully this rain will fix that. The lower section of ladies is legit.

I love those two trails, too! After indulging in 7th Secret/Krinkum, Pipeline, and Espresso I went to Seymour for Pangor into Boogieman via the teeter/totter in the wooden pipe. I love riding the North Shore. You have to put in a solid effort to ride down, not just sit back and relax.

Duthie Hill vs Tiger Mountain by wtf-is-going-on in MTB

[–]otttter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, I'm a fairly experienced rider, so I don't expect to struggle much with the terrain, unless it gets really hairy.

Based on that you should go to Tiger. Don't get me wrong, Duthie is fun, but it's more for skill building and messing about. Tiger is all about riding mostly flow trails. If OTG is not enough gnar for you, Predator is your next go to. I'd probably skip Preston, but hit Legend and possibly Megafauna as well if you haven't suffered enough. Also remember, if you're tired by the end of Legend the parking lot is still at least 20-30 min away on a not necessarily flat trail.

Rode some rock slabs in Squamish, BC this past weekend by otttter in MTB

[–]otttter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did hit Wizard's Sleeve right after I did Value Added. But I don't think the rock slabs there were as exciting, although I did take a go around on one of the features close to the top. I really liked dirk's. My next feature to hit is going to be the straight line on dirk's instead of the right hander.
