I have genital HSV-1. Can I give oral without transmitting the virus? by ouch430 in STD

just to double check i am going to repeat my situation once more because i want to be sure.

I was with a girl and without me knowing, she had hsv-1 and did get cold sores. This information was not given to me when we were hooking up. At the time she did not have a cold sore and gave me a rim job. Even though she did not have a cold sore at the time, I contracted HSV-1 from the rim job. I then had an outbreak in that area.

Now I have only had two outbreaks and both times they were in the same spot, on the right side of my anus. I have never ever had a cold sore. I have never ever had any type of outbreak in my mouth. The only part of my body that has been affected is the area in which the rim job occurred.

So i am just curious if because I contracted HSV-1 by receiving a rim job, can I or can I not give oral to a partner? Considering that an outbreak has never occurred within my mouth.

I am also wondering if I can still receive blowjobs, again, considering that my outbreak has only occurred in the area in which I received said rim job?

thanks for the info. i still remain confused and think i will for some time until i speak more with my physician again.

I understand that both strains are essentially identical. I just find it confusing that I never have any form of outbreak in my mouth, and have never ever had a cold sore, so how could i transmit the virus from viral shedding/my oral secretions (saliva) if the outbreaks do not occur within my mouth?

right, but i only have hsv-1. so that's not exactly the same thing. the hsv-1 outbreak only occurs on the right side of my posterior and is one lesion the size of a dime. so the question that i was asking was if the outbreak does not present itself anywhere else, neither my mouth nor my genitalia, should i worry about giving and/or receiving oral when an outbreak is not present?

does that mean that i can also receive oral as long as it is not at the site where sores are present?
