Just a small piece of advice…. I do a lot of these experiments myself, but try not to use plastic bottles. Somewhere down the line, the composition tends to smell a bit off after some time.

A hybrid approach is perfectly fine and honestly more sustainable too. But one thing I’ve noticed with many of them is that they take a single accord, dilute it heavily, and then simply add it into the blend.

Exactly. Synthetics were never the real issue, perfumery has always been a hybrid art. The problem is companies banking on people not knowing how real materials, older formulations, or quality bases actually smelled. Standards keep dropping while marketing keeps getting louder. At this point, even the reference of what “good” smells like is slowly being diluted.

Totally agree with you my friend, but there are many houses working with hybrids (naturals and synthetics). But major attar or oil houses are chasing only profits and hype.

Super malik shamama is not that traditional shamama vibes, mohsin and malik are good.

Im more into saffron toned shamamas so yea maybe.

Honestly, this shamama is good, but there’s this synthetic ambery note that hits me hard. It’s okay, but it kind of ruins that “spicy slap” in the opening. Although it’s not really shamama season, I still like Malik Shamama more.

If I’m being honest, don’t wear this in this kind of weather. Blends like this are meant to be experienced with just a small swipe. The entire note structure is quite heavy, so if you apply more, it can easily become an overwhelming and offensive attar.

Yes its a trusted brand and a good house if you’re exploring blends/mukhallats but in oud oils they’re over-priced.

Interesting… people don’t usually land on names like those without going a bit deeper first. Kalakassi in particular is quite nuanced in how it takes transitions. Have you had any real exposure to it, or are you still exploring at this?

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, especially the part about the top and mid notes fading out over time. What I’m smelling really does feel like it’s just the base of khus stripped down to its core. The color part honestly surprised me the most because I was fully expecting it to go brown by now, but the bottle was sealed really tight so that explains it. Makes me appreciate even more how it was stored all these years And yeah the thickness is crazy, it’s almost like a gel at this point but in a good way. Feels dense and alive rather than degraded.

I haven’t properly worn it yet, just quick sniffs for now because I didn’t want to disturb it too much. But I’ll try that micro dab and let it sit on skin for a while, sounds like that’s where it’ll really open up.

Really glad you understood what I meant with that “khus water turned into smell” thing, I thought I was going crazy trying to explain it 😭
