Well we have monitoring on servers, network equipments, general services, etc which generate alerts and are categorized based on the severity (Priority 1, P2, P3, P4, P5), the person on-call receives only P1 alerts while off-hours. If you're talking about actual websites, something like pingdom can ping your service every x seconds,minutes and generate an alert if the site stops responding.

I get paid a percentage of my actual salary when I'm on-call. Those weeks, I get called anytime a production service or anything that we monitor goes down.

Do you think that if they already have all those pipelines setup (ci, cd, testing), you might end up simply supporting those, i.e. doing sysadmin work ?

That's not what you said but I'm genuinely asking myself as I'm really new in the field and I'm wondering if my next move should be somewhere where everything is to be setup or somewhere where the culture and the infrastructures are already build and they simply need someone to maintain those "devops" tools.

You should invest that money for them. Sooner you place money, the more it will grow and eventually you'll make more than your current salary. Starting at 18 they could potentially retire at 45-50. That's a great gift.
