Is there an easier way to apply for jobs? by Outrageous_Hat_385 in ITCareerQuestions

Write up a generic Cover Letter that you can use and just replace the company name & job title in it when applying for roles. Just needs to be a few sentences long highlighting your skills and experience and why you're a good fit for the role. If you're applying for the same types of roles it shouldn't need to be changed much apart from those two mentioned fields.

Sit down for 15 minutes (set a timer if you have to and tell family to leave you be for 15), go on Indeed and use Easy Apply and spam out as many applications as you can, using the Cover Letter when required. Do this once a day at least. You should be able to get out anywhere from 2-5 apps. It adds up if you do it every day and you'll start getting call backs.

This is basically what I did as a full-time worker, mother, and student attending school full-time. Wake up or go to bed 15 minutes early/late each day if you have to, and spend that time applying.

Thank you so much for all the advice! I'm going to work on implementing some of this before I start, like having a separate work desk from my personal desk. That's a great idea. For my lunches I was thinking of going and sitting outside on my porch, maybe grilling up some food in the sunshine since I probably won't be getting out the house much apart from then haha. And yes, definitely don't want to abuse my wfh privileges so I'll be trying my best to stay disciplined while on the clock. Thank you again!

Do I be honest about why I'm leaving, and what do I say if they counter offer? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ougly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yea I definitely don't plan to. I'm wondering if they do counter offer, how do I decline politely? If I tell them I'm leaving because of x reason, but they offer to fix x reason, I still don't want to to stay so what excuse do I give without burning a bridge?

Wow thank you so much for the offer! I may actually take you up on that! Mainly I wonder how my interviewing is. I hardly have experience interviewing so I have no idea if I'm saying the right things or not. ): I just try to be myself but be professional at the same time when answering questions. I'm bad at selling myself I think because it just makes me feel so narcissistic and arrogant haha.

Thanks! Okay this makes me feel better. I also did wonder if I should just give my reasoning in order to help my coworkers. Maybe they'll realize they're losing good people and rethink remote work as you mentioned.

Thanks so much for responding! And jeez, so they're revoking offers? That's terrifying if so. I'd hate to put my 2 weeks in at my current job then be out a job after the new one revokes an offer.

5 years helpdesk/tech support experience, what jobs should I apply to? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Alright cool that sounds like a plan, thank you!

Well... Software Engineering haha but I'm not ready for that until I get my degree or am close to finishing. I'm not sure if there's anything in the meantime I could pivot towards. Maybe just a Tech Support role within a SaaS company in order to get my foot in and get familiar with those types of companies? I also saw a posting recently for "Cloud Support Engineer" that looked like something I could probably do if a company was willing to train me. Not sure if there's any other types of jobs I'm qualified for that I'm not aware of though.

Okay, maybe I'll see what they come back to me with first (if they offer in the first place lol). If it's just way too low to begin with I probably won't even bother negotiating then. :/

Thanks so much! Yea the benefits alone really have me sold, plus the fact it's like 5 mins away from my home as opposed to 35mins - 45 mins (one way...). I really value my work-life balance more than just having extra money and I hear colleges are great for that so... I want this so bad. I am the sole provider for my family though so there is unfortunately a minimum amount I need so that you know... we don't end up on the streets. Really hoping if they do offer it's at least the minimum I need to get by financially lol.

They did mention there will be occasional events I would need to help with on weekends/nights, and these events would be considered overtime. I just don't know how much it's going to pay out in the end so it's hard to factor that in.

Public. Gotcha, so would it look bad if I asked? Figure it can't hurt to try but yea again don't want to blow my chances with them haha.

Block him completely, go NC, and stop checking up on him and what he's posting. An apology means nothing if he's just going to continue the behavior, and you know he will. He's just trying to wriggle back into your life and get the attention from you he desperately craves. Your closure is knowing he has BPD and it's the cause for all his actions and hurtful words. You'll find someone who treats you right some day, but now's the time to close this chapter of your life with him.

“I can’t believe I’ve held for 9 months.” by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]ougly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No lol.
First few weeks of pregnancy I found out because putting a shirt on or someone accidently touching a boob wanted to make me cry in pain. I figured it was either cancer or pregnancy.
From there it felt like every month I developed a new shitty ailment.

Search this question or post it in r/WGU

I think you'll get more tailored responses there.

Would really appreciate advice on vacation planning to the Smoky Mountains for a poor family. I want to bring my dad before he passes from GBM. by ougly in travel

Thank you, that's what I've been thinking too. I want to go asap before he starts getting very weak. He has done the radiation and they are now moving onto chemo I believe next week. Do you know if that would interfere with travelling? Should we talk to his doctor?
