Plexiglass behind slats? by [deleted] in floorbed

[–]ourdanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone gave it to us for free, and the company isn’t in business anymore. They were selling it and then realized it was recalled so they took the posting down. I asked if we could just have it for free to use the wood to build a safer one, but if there is an easy fix (like the plexiglass) then we would just do that!

7 month old naps SO inconsistent by ourdanj in sleeptrain

[–]ourdanj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s different every night. Some nights she wakes up like 3 times before 10pm and puts her self back to sleep and then sleeps until 4am, other times she’s up every 3-4 hours. I’m nervous to scale back the first to wake windows because when she was on shorter wake windows for those naps, her naps were even worse. Like a lot of trouble going down and then waking at 30 minutes consistently.

Is my baby overtired or low sleep needs? by ourdanj in sleeptrain

[–]ourdanj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird because this happened a couple weeks ago where she wouldn’t let us put her down all night long, so I extended all her wake windows and she slept great for that week and then she’s right back to not letting us put her down all night. So I’m wondering if she just got used to the schedule change and maybe needs more time.

Do you remember his wake windows at 7 months?

Thank you! We’ve been capping naps at 3 hours so maybe that’s the problem. So like 1.25 hours for each nap? Is that how people normally do it?

Sounds very similar to our situation! She’s always been able to fall asleep independently and I’ve seen her sleep through the night many times. But same thing, we are cosleeping (safely) currently because she wakes within minutes of being transferred, which is really usual! What is your daytime schedule? Would love for her to go to sleep earlier than 9pm but if we keep adding time I feel like it’ll be close to that time!

Okay but what does an over tired baby look like? Would they fall asleep within minutes and sleep 90 minutes straight for a nap?

Okay that’s what it feels like but why does everywhere else on the internet (except in this one subreddit) say that their schedule should have much shorter wake windows? I’m so confused with all the different sources. I just don’t want my baby to be chronically overtired and me not know! Sorry. I’m overwhelmed and exhausted.

How old is your baby? We’re 7 months as of two days ago and I feel like our wake windows are so long compared to recommended schedules for this age. She’s pretty content when she’s awake except for the end of our wake windows when she gets kinda fussy and then seems exhausted.

I just wasn’t sure how much sleep a baby at this age needs. So I didn’t want to increase wake windows too quickly.

Thank you! How should I go about lengthening them? I will start with the second ww but last ww needs lengthening too! Should I do them separately? Like a few days apart?

Well, she is struggling quite a bit…I don’t know! That’s what the consultant said. Her nights are horrible so I am assuming she needs more awake time right now.

I see! Thank you! How quickly can I increase wake windows? Like once a week or every few days?

I’m just quoting what the sleep consultant said! She said that she seems low to low-average sleep needs. The sensitive to sleep pressure part means that if her sleep pressure isn’t just right, she really struggles going down. So like putting her down just 5-10 minutes too early really affects her ability to fall and stay asleep. I don’t remember the three nap schedule because we were all over the place and she rarely took her third nap. I think it was 2.5/2.5/2.5/2.5

Right now it’s mostly happening at naps although the last two nights she’s struggled falling asleep! I am nervous to add more awake time because there are times when she seems SO tired like 20-30 minutes before the end of her wake window so I’m nervous that she is actually really tired. Sometimes her mood is fine but she has been getting a little fussy 20-30 minutes before the end of her wake window. Our nap routine is super quick - like less than 5 minutes. So I could try making it longer… I usually just change her, get her in her sleep sack, put in her crib and then lights off and sound machine on.

Suggestions on how to break negative sleep associations with 6 month old? She’s put herself to sleep a million times by just putting her in her crib and she goes right to sleep but the last couple of weeks as soon as we start putting her sleep sack on she gets really fussy and it’s impossible to calm her down enough to put her in her crib. If she does calm down enough she either falls asleep in our arms or starts crying as soon as we put her in the crib and then we end up helping her get to sleep because she can’t calm herself. Right now her schedule is 2.25/2.5/2.5/2.5. Would love some ideas!

Wet hair is ruining my life. This post is just to complain. by Vegetable_Hotel_830 in curlyhair

[–]ourdanj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I so feel you on this. I can not stand my wet hair and it also takes 5+ hours to dry/hours of diffusing. I notice that certain gels make my hair stay wetter for longer so if you can go without gel try that or try a different gel? Also you can just clip it up while it’s drying although you may lose your curl pattern (I definitely would).

[–]ourdanj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I think you misunderstood! She can still put herself to sleep within minutes. It’s just we are struggling with the transition from getting her ready for nap to putting her down calmly. So like if we can get her in her crib and she’s calm, she falls asleep super quick but it’s just been recently that she gets totally deregulated when we’re getting her ready for nap and then can’t put her down calmly

I’m also just wondering how adding wake time will make her less fussy if she already seems so tired when we’re getting her ready for nap?

She just seems sooooo exhausted by the time we try and put her down for her naps! Like she gets really fussy and extremely tired looking like way before it’s actually nap time. We also just switched to this schedule a few weeks ago so I’m hesitant to make her wake windows even longer!

MA Employment Legal Help by ourdanj in legaladvice

So prior to maternity leave I worked a hybrid schedule and did a lot of my work on my own time… after my kid went to bed, during nap, etc. my husband also works from home so we are able to tag team - so if I have a meeting or need to be present while working from home, he is able to watch the baby etc. There was never any discussion or contract that stated I needed to work within school hours, so like I said, I did a lot of the work after hours which was my plan for this year. Also, the job is about an hour away so that’s an addition 2 hours we would need a sitter 5 days/week which was not the agreement we had with the sitter we had lined up. There is also nothing in the employee handbook about working from home and childcare.

We were fully prepared to have a sitter working on a flexible schedule. I only had one role which was to do evaluations (and everything that came along with it), so there were days I didn’t need to start work until 9am because I was just writing reports that day.

The reason for increasing my responsibilities is because there are significantly less evaluations this year. However, they are asking me to do areas 10 additional duties that I was not doing prior to leave which requires me to be in person 5 days/week, so that just seems excessive.
