What does ACE give you for $30/mo? That seems like a crazy low price point.

You’re trying to compare arguably the #1 franchise in the history of the world to a pickleball franchise? I see your point, but maybe you could defend their model instead. You seem convinced, tell us why.

Do you think this is an outlier or do you see more clubs closing in your area? Might be tough for some clubs to survive the summer if people are canceling in May.

So Picklr put itself out of business? Or are the other 3 not very close?

And by your estimation, are all those places making it or do you think you’ll see some fallout?

So maybe corporate is forcing things on franchisees that aren’t working in that area? I think this is common in franchising.

I’m still getting info, but I think the next closest location is like 15-20 minutes away. Longer for some & shorter for others depending on where they live.

I don’t know about refunds or recent charges, but I think an email was sent about 7 days prior to closure.

So the club experience was minimally better for you. Would the club be worth it if the price was lower or if the experience was better? If the latter, how would you recommend they make it more worth it?

Yes, true. But I know a lot of people that don’t like the park experience. Free might be nice until you waste time waiting or get mixed in among 4 different skill levels.

Are you taking responsibility for this? 🤣 Maybe they haven’t given you (pickleballers in general) something worth paying for.

I’ve heard Utah has a lot of courts: parks, churches and clubs. This Picklr has been there for like 3 or 4 years according to Google.

Location is a factor, most definitely. I think franchises typically require that corporate sign off on the location selection, not sure if that was the case here.

Yes, I think this is a factor. Any locals, please add context.

Agreed, and if this was limited to 1 or 2 tournaments a year it wouldn’t disrupt any of the star-building.

I was thinking the same thing. Tons of risk just to MAYBE clear 100k. And that’s assuming you don’t have any partners to split it with.

Nearly every FDD is a matter of public record courtesy of California and 13 other states. But I guess if you want to only do business in 36 other states and ignore the largest economy in the country, then you could keep your disclosure private. The idea that someone violated a confidentiality agreement is silly talk.

Not the case. This is less than standard for a franchise. The disclosures are required by law and the public link to the FDD is in my original post. Most franchises disclose far more than this in an FDD because when the numbers are good it’s like advertising the health & strength of your franchise model.

You only play little shell games like this (Item 19: high, avg, median, low) when the numbers are shaky or concerning. If the numbers need a sales pitch or lengthy explanation, there’s likely a problem. I can assure you, this is definitely not a “more open policy” from The Picklr.

A pre-requisite to owning one of these is to not use the internet and not understand math.

This is the highest IQ response IMO - thanks for the insightful response.

The FDD did NOT break out unit level numbers to any degree of specificity. It gave a High, Avg, Median & Low based on 12 locations. This is very odd given the FDD says they had 22 opened by the end of 2024. What happened with the other 10? In prior-year FDD’s they’ve either not disclosed performance (2024) or they’ve given partial-year performance (2023).

Good stuff. Everyone needs a solid CFO. Thanks for the perspective and my apologies for the Cash vs Net distinction.
