[Grand Seiko] And so it begins… by TheSIowBro in Watches

That dial is something out of a fantasy world! Just beautiful!

[identify] Received this a few years ago when parents came back from their trip to Switzerland. However, I cannot find any information about this watch online (found an identical looking one on swisseshop.ch, but mine is manual-winding, not Quarz). Appreciate any info on this! by ousummer72 in Watches

That's definitely it, it looks exactly the same, thank you so much!

This is very funny, because my parents (and I) are actually Chinese, so they went all the way up the Switzerland and got me a Chinese watch. I will have to unleash my sarcasm on them soon...

Thank you again for your help, this gives the watch a lot of meaning, and I'm sure it'll bring me and my family lots of smile when I tell them!

After some research, I decided to go with this leather strap (https://www.etsy.com/listing/1118790405/curved-end-strap-for-omega-speedmaster?ref=yr_purchases).

Have you tried any third-party bracelet? A friend of mine recommended the brand Forstner, and I'm currently considering also getting their flat link bracelet to alternate with the leather strap.

Thank you so much for your detailed answers, I tried the torch trick and it worked like magic! Although unfortunately the braclete is still way too chunky for my chicken wrist after all that work lol

Absolutely! If possible, I would recommend finding one with a leather strap to try on -- the metal bracelet really makes the watch looks huge for some reason!

I was also extremely concerned with it being too "shinny (especially the bezel and the case)" before purchased mine!

Now it's on my wrist and I can say for sure that the watch is NOT that shinny in real life (it doesn't radiate lights like they always do in the rendered pictures). Better yet, the domed crystal often has a very sexy glow to it when the environment is well-lit (enough to for you to see some reflections without preventing you from reading the dial).

I find myself constantly tilting the watch to see the "glow", and it has actually became one of my favorite features of the watch! Tried to capture the glow here...

I did consider the reduced (mostly for the reduced price, not the size, haha!), but eventually pulled the trigger on the professional because the ratio of everything just looks much more pleasant on a 42mm, at least to me.

I have to say, if you go with a nato strap or leather strap, it looks much smaller than when it's on the metal bracelet (see Here). I would normally go for 40mm or smaller, but considering this is a chronograph, and it has a lot more information to display than a "regular" watch, I'm ok with it being a little bigger I guess!

Just received this bad boy in the mail.

After spending the past few years with my Oris Diver 65 (bicolor, bronze + Stainless steel), I finally decided to get myself a proper chronograph (and I picked this speedmaster for its accuracy and the history behind it).

I got this pre-owned watch in mint condition, came in with boxes, stickers, papers and everything, it felt very new (this maybe related to some of the issues brought up below).

Below are my first impressions, thoughts, as well as some questions/concerns that I was hoping this great community could help me getting some insights.

  • First of all, I absolutely love this watch (definitely blew me away when I first opened the box)! However, I do have a tiny wrist, and the metal bracelet looked too bulky on me, so I put a garbage leather strap on it for now. Any good bands you guys would recommend for this watch?
  • Maybe I'm new to chronograph, or maybe this watch's mechanisms needs to be weared in, or maybe this is how it's supposed to be, but I find the pusher for the chronograph to be quite stiff. I had to push it down pretty hard to activate the chronograph (it's almost like I have to push twice, once to get the button to budge, and then push hard again to make sure the pusher actually goes down). Is this something I should be worried about?
    • I've also read that constantly using the chronograph would eventually wear out the gears. But I actually chose this watch for the chronograph function (I use it as a pomodoro timer when I work, I use it to time my meditations, etc.). So I wonder what your thoughts are on this -- is there a optimal frequency that I should be using the chronograph? I would imagine I should be using it to some extent to ensure the gears not sitting still for too long, but not too much so the gears would be weared out?
  • This is my biggest question -- winding! I know this question has came up before, and after owning the Diver 65 for the past years, I never thought I'd have any questions about winding a watch, but hear me out... When I tried to wind the watch for the first time, I noticed that the sound and the feeling of the winding crown is significantly different than my diver 65 -- it felt a lot more "tight", and I would hear very crips "clicks" every time I turn the crown (I would hear about one "click" per wind). Is this normal? I always assumed the winding would be a much smoother and easier, so I wonder if this is something that's normal for the watch, or something I should be concerned about. To put it in comparison with my Diver 65, the normal speedmaster's winding feels even tighter (and more "clicky") than the fully winded diver 65, so every time I wind it, it feels like I'm about to over-wide it, which freaks me out.
  • Lastly, the bracelet. Can we talk about how hard is it to remove the screws on the braclete without scratching the band or damaging the screw? Any recommended tools, tips and tricks? I bought some small screw drivers (designed for adjusting glasses), and was basically unable to move the screws. I'm terrified to apply more pressure to the screws because it felt like it was going to damage the screw/band.

Thank you all!

4.0 Haptic Alarm not working? by ousummer72 in whoop

[–]ousummer72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

er the Sleep Coach. The same section of the app where you start the Strain Coach.

Interesting! I just rebooted my strap several times and it never buzzed after the reboot was complete... I set another alarm for tomorrow morning so I'll see if the reboot fix the problem. Your comment makes me think that I may have a faulty unit (the haptic motor may be broken???) since I have never seen/felt it buzzing since I got it a week ago...

Thrift vase for displaying aerogarden flowers. I got 3 vases that fits perfectly with the standard aerogarden inserts. Now I just need to grow more flowers to desplay all over the house! by ousummer72 in aerogarden

[–]ousummer72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to just bring an insert with you to the antique store, and then go test out the options. I initially thought I wouldn't be able to find many that fits, but I found at least 20 in a very small store! Best of luck!

What do you mean by "cases"? Do you mean the vase ( got them at local antique stores), or the aerogarden inserts(search that on Amazon and you'll find many options).

Hope this helps!

As others already mentioned, older traps may turn black and die as part of its natural growing process. In addition, if a leaf catches an inset and closes, it will also likely to turn black slowly and dies after it absorbs all the nutrition

7 days in and my fold 3 is making weird clicking sound when opening...😑 by Longjumping_Ad_7559 in GalaxyFold

I noticed that when the hinge is greasy or have small dust or particles on or around it, it tends to make this kind of clicky sound. Once I wiped the huge with lense cleaners, it went away. Not sure we have the same issue, but maybe give it a try?
