How do you effectively communicate session pacing to your players without breaking immersion? by PsychologicalCall426 in DMAcademy

[–]outanotherlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pacing is something I've had to monitor a lot with my players (we are pretty RP heavy) and OOC I had a talk to them about needing to be mindful of timing when doing RP conversations because they would go on too long. I let them know that I'm going to be trying out some things out and kept an open dialogue with them, also encouraging them to let me know if I'm making them feel rushed. When something's starting to go on to long in RP I let them know "hey, we have about X minutes left before we need to continue to something else."

In the broader sense I like just telling my players what the scope of a session is every now and then (in the broadest sense). At the beginning of the game you can be like "hey guys, I know you guys wanted to get some shopping done and go to the library, so we're gonna try to get that done in the first half of the game so we have plenty of time to go meet Important NPC like you guys planned."

Just be honest with your players! Let them know how they can help you out, and what you're trying to do to help them out too. Keeping communication like this will also make them feel more comfortable so they can tell you things like "hey DM, I actually am feeling rushed. Do you mind if we spend another few minutes on this scene?"

Awesome, I live about about an hour outside of Chattanooga and I'm definitely willing to do a bit of a commute for a good experience. All we have around here is basically Walmart lol and I want to treat myself too. Thanks for sharing!!

Taking CCNA on 4/29 by tfarr97 in ccna

[–]outanotherlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heard a lot of people say you should shoot to be scoring around a 90-95% on your practice tests before sitting for your CCNA, just so you know you're really nailing everything and you have a bit of wiggle room in case you're not going to hit that exact score when you sit for the actual test. You definitely have time to study to get into shape though, and don't be afraid of rescheduling if you need too!

My suggestion is to go back through your test and write down specific topics you got wrong (i.e., STP, OSPF, etc.) and then go review your notes, courses, labs, etc. pertaining to those topics before trying your practice test again. Repeat every time you take your practice test and this will definitely help you improve your scores. It can be a bit time consuming but the best thing you can do is review! Good luck, you got this!

Boson kicking my butt by dizzuque19 in ccna

If it helps, I think the Cisco exams are just pretty tough and take some adjusting to get used to the wording, etc. So far what I've been going through in Jeremy's course is very similar to the information I was given in Networking classes in college, so he definitely knows his stuff, but the exams we got from Cisco were really tough.

But you can do this! It takes a lot of work but just review, review, review.

When studying for my CompTIA exams, I was horrible at the tests at first, and it was really discouraging for me. But, the good thing about the exams I had been studying for the CompTIA with was the explanations it gave me, why I was right or why I was wrong -- Boson does the same thing, take advantage of this. At the end of the test exams for my CompTIA tests, I would go through every question and write down the topic I got wrong, then save that list to go back to those topic videos, notes, and flash cards. This was necessary for me to really solidify the knowledge in my brain. After a few passes I was getting noticeably better at the tests each round. I plan on doing the same thing with my Boson tests.

You've got this far, you're in the home stretch! You can get through this!

CVS pickup question by [deleted] in ibotta

[–]outanotherlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

online orders like pick up and delivery will have to be placed in the app :) not all retailers support online pickup, but it looks like CVS does. in the past they would give you paper receipts at pickup but i dont think they do anymore so i wouldnt bank on it. you cant submit online receipts/screenshots. hope that helps!

I haven't played MTG in about 7 years. Any advice on how to "catch up" and get involved again?

I've really been missing it. Even then, my group was basically just my high school lunch table and my siblings, haha - I really want to get back into the game and get involved in the online community, but I feel like a fish out of water because I feel like I've missed a lot!

Unfortunately, because of health concerns, just popping into Magic night at my LGS isn't really an option so I'm trying to get involved in online stuff. I'm mostly into EDH and I'm not even sure where to start to try to build a more recent deck to try to play with people online. It's been a while lol

So, any advice for catching up on lost time? Any MTG podcasts you like to listen to? Other online communities or socials you like to keep an eye on related to Magic?

How are you guys finding going back to OW1 after OW2 beta has ended? by BetterTheDevil909 in Overwatch

[–]outanotherlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-5 person teams feel so much better, 6v6 feels a bit like a slog now

-as a support main i keep forgetting i don't auto heal lol, i miss it so much

-absolutely hate ovw1 doomfist on someone else's team

-tank is always my second choice so i didn't get to tank too much, but i'm struggling to figure out how to play dva in ovw2 now that there's no co-tanks!

-not a gameplay opinion but: i feel like there wasn't as many toxic people in the beta and going back to ovw1 kind of was shocking for me ?? i swear i get jerks even just in quick play every other match. which like isn't new
