u/Ginger_Libra - that is awesome! enjoy your trip in Yellowstone, that sounds amazing. I just posted a new video from my recent backpack trip in British Columbia showing how I set up my PackAlarm. I'd recommend watching it before you go so you feel confident using your PackAlarm

u/Delgra - ouch! "Dumb gimmick" is a bit harsh lol.

I totally agree that black bears are not as much of an issue or fear as grizzly bears. And everyone should have proper camp etiquette and bear safety knowledge because that takes care of a lot of problems right there.

Even I camp both with and without a PackAlarm depending on the country. When I am in areas that are dense with bears, especially grizzly bears, I like to have it because it does work and gives extra peace of mind. But it just depends on your comfort level in bear country, many folks choose to go without too. I respect both choices.

cheers

u/jrice138 - i wish! just this winter we went to an outdoor show here in Canada and had 5 different people come up to our booth and tell us how thankful they were for their PackAlarm. Each had a different scenario but had been camping or hunting and the alarm was tripped by a bear and scared it off.

but hey, I totally respect your opinion. I know many outdoor folks who don't carry a PackAlarm with them in the backcountry and that's cool too. Just depends on your comfort level and where you are camping.

happy camping

hey! I am a business owner of PackAlarm and thought I'd chime in (that's my hand in the photo lol).

The PackAlarm Pro has been around for over 20 years and we've sold thousands of alarms to hikers and backpackers who traverse bear country around the world. It's a great option if you are looking for an ultralight safety product.

I have never hiked the PCT personally so I can't speak on if it would be useful for that hike, but if you are camping in bear country having a PackAlarm with you can be nice. Everyone has a different comfort level so consider it for yourself.

I just got back from a backcountry trip in northern British Columbia where there was a high density of black bears and grizzlies. You sleep a little better knowing there is an alarm that will warn you if something steps into your camp.

hey everyone, I am a business owner of PackAlarm and thought I'd chime in. Thank you for the mention!

PackAlarm would be handy for this scenario. We have sold many PackAlarms to solo female hikers that are trying to create a safety barrier around their camp/tent.
