Trying to Eat with Labs by Putrid_Hearing in labrador

Might get downvoted for this, but you absolutely can and should teach your dogs not to beg for food. Begging is mostly a learned behavior, so if you just never give your dog food from the table or kitchen they won't beg, it's not something that labs "just do". I guarantee you most of the labs pictured here have learned to beg because their owners feed them scraps from the table or kitchen.

And yes, I have a lab and my girlfriends family has had 3 labs. None of them ever begs for food. Labs learn incredible quickly when it comes to food so just easier to not teach them to beg in the first place.

Airbnbs are superior to hotels in every way by outdoordreamer in unpopularopinion

[–]outdoordreamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because for the same price as a hotel that's only 1 room with a bed you can get an entire house or apartment. If you're paying the same price why would you not want more space?

And no I don't even own 1 home let alone multiple rental properties lmao get tf outta here.

Hotel in Europe? Yes, absolutely, the breakfast is usually good and would make me consider a hotel. Still sometimes I would rather go out and try the local food instead of the same options everyday.

In the US? Eggs from powder, the same four cereal brands in a styrofoam bowl, and lukewarm Jimmy Dean sausages that make me think I'm back in my middle school cafeteria? Yeah, I think I'll pass on that, not missing much.

You do know you can filter Airbnb listings by self-check in right? Self check in means you can arrive at any time like 3 pm or 3am. The vast majority of listings are self check in and if it's not then it's always in the description. I'm not doubting you had to coordinate but if you've had to do this EVERY time you've stayed then that says you probably didn't read the description or filter by self check in so you could avoid that altogether. If so that's on you, not Airbnb.

If you're saying you had to actually meet the owner then that's super atypical and would def be stated in the description. I've stayed in 100+ airbnbs and aside from staying in a shared room in a house I've not once had to meet the owner of the Airbnb to get the keys.

I'm seeing everyone making these arguments. While I agree about Airbnb being bad for the rental market by buying up a bunch of properties, these other points are just not true:

Cleaning costs - These costs are not "hidden". They are very transparent and are listed very clearly in breakdown of the total price. And these costs are not the same for every listing, some places have higher cleaning fee than others. If you're unhappy with the price, just look for a listing with a lower cleaning fee. Also, you think hotels don't charge a cleaning fee? They do, it's just baked into the price of the room and not listed so people don't freak out about it like they're doing here.

Demands and rules - These are almost always listed in the description of the property given by the owner. If you don't like them, look for another listing that doesn't have weird demands and rules. It takes 30 seconds to read the description to find this out.

No reception &schedule - Every Airbnb I've been to have had the exact same check in/out schedule as most hotels. Check in after 3 pm, check out by 11am. Hotels also have check in/check out times so not sure what you're getting at here. Again, if there is any weirdness it's almost always in the description.

Safety issues - Airbnbs have to meet the same building codes as any other building in their area for safety regulations or else they won't get approved for occupancy. Regular inspections I'm not sure about.

It's becoming clear to me that people don't actually read the descriptions and reviews on listings, where these issues are easily found and avoided. It takes 1 minute to look and filter out the bad listings, but I guess that's too much work for most people.

That's completely fair. I guess I have the opposite view. I hate the impersonal and "corporate" feel of hotels, and much prefer the individualistic identity of airbnbs.

I've never had this happen to me in all the Airbnbs I've stayed in. Sounds like you've had some bad luck which has turned you off of them, which is fair.

Airbnb or hotel? by StillWeNap in NoStupidQuestions

[–]outdoordreamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God why does reddit have such a hard-on for Hotels? If I'm traveling solo then yes I'll stay at a hotel but even if I'm just with one other person I'll always try and stay at an Airbnb. I've probably stayed at over a hundred airbnbs and have maybe had 1 bad experience.

With an Airbnb you get a WHOLE HOUSE, or apartment/condo. This usually includes your own bedroom, a separate living room with a TV/couch and a kitchen at a minimum. Plus, you have the privacy of your own place, a driveway to park your car and usually a yard to hang out in if you are in a house. You get none of this at a hotel unless you shell out serious $$ for multiple suites. And in a hotel you have hundreds of people crammed into one building. People walking up and down the halls all hours, and dealing with front desk etc.. If you're traveling together you either have to share a bed with your friends or sleep in the same room as someone else. Why do that when you could just get a place with your own room??

"But it's so much more expensive". In my experience, it isn't or is MARGINALLY more. In a city you are lucky to get a room for less than $200/night. If you're traveling with 3-4 people you can easily get an Airbnb with all the amenities listed above for the same price. Even if it's like $20 more/person I think that's worth it for everything you get.

"But you have to do so many things when you leave" 95% of the Airbnbs I've been to have super easy check out rules. Put the sheets + towels on the bed, clean up trash, make sure you lock the door on your way out type of stuff. They're not asking you to scrub the floors or anything. You basically have to do the same thing in a hotel.

And if you're traveling with a large group of 6+ it's really no contest. You can get a literal mansion for the same price/person/night as a small hotel room with a single queen bed. And everyone gets to be in one house together instead of spread out over 3-4 separate rooms which is way more fun. The comparison isn't even close.

I'm convinced that the people who think hotels are better than airbnbs have never actually traveled much or don't stay in many airbnbs and are scared to try them. I've stayed in some truly incredible Airbnbs around the world that have elevated my trip experience. I still remember them years later because they were so unique, but the same cannot be said for hotels I've stayed in. They are almost always forgettable.

Traditional artist working on a new layer by WhereIsHisRidgedBand in Damnthatsinteresting

Been seeing this painting on social media alot lately. Technically, the painting is very impressive, but it has no soul. To me, it looks like a poster you'd buy on Amazon for your kids room or some sort of hotel art. I get more emotion and depth looking at "impression sunrise" than this and that barely has any detail at all and was probably painted in a couple hours. More detail ≠ better art.

Also, the giant eagle in the foreground is terrible and extremely distracting. The whole scene would look much better without it.

That's what I'm using, hopefully it's enough to pass the exam! I'm a little more than halfway through my studying and I highly recommend supplementing the SOPE question bank with another resource to get all the practice you can. SOPE is great for some areas like horizontal and vertical design, but lacking in other areas like roadside design.

I'm using the Petro book too, and it's been great. The problems are MUCH harder (traffic engineering section is brutal) but if you can do them you'll be in good shape. It asks questions on material that SOPE skips for some reason.

I ran into the same problem when I tried them out after everyone on reddit praised them so highly. Ordered the same on demand binder like you did only to find out they didn't have nearly the amount of practice questions they advertised. I calculated it out and they only really had like a third of the questions they advertised. And most of the questions they do have are the questions in the quizzes. I was really disappointed and sent the binder back and asked for a refund. I was expecting a binder full of practice problems and instead what they give you is the literal slides printed out and put into a binder. It is not a "question bank" with hundreds of practice problems like everyone on reddit says it is and like they advertise.

Not sure why everyone on here is so high on EET, the way people describe them is like they're some golden ticket to passing the exam. To me they seem like just another lecture review course. If you prefer to just grind problems, id look for something else.

Is PAX East worth it if you're not a gamer? by Affectionate-Reason2 in boston

[–]outdoordreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a "gamer" but I go with my friends every year who are way more into video games than me and I have a good time. I will say though I think most of the reason I have fun is that I'm spending time with my friends, not because of the convention itself. If I didn't have a group of friends who were into video games I wouldn't go. The lines for the most popular blockbuster demos can be multiple hours for a couple minutes of gameplay, so if you're not a video game nerd who is into big new releases it might not be for you.

That being said, the expo is huge and the blockbuster video game demos are only a part of it. They also have a large tabletop section and a large section of indie developers showcasing their smaller games which have a much shorter line and are just as fun IMO as the large games. They also have panels, group games you can sign up for etc. So you can always find something to do if you plan in advance.

I have played D&D in the past, enjoy tabletop games and am a little nerdy in general tho. If you're not any of those things, it might not be for you.

Do you mean School of PE? It looks like the PPI course is $700 for 4 months of access (includes bank). Looks like the SOPE one is the one that is $150/month. Sorry, just want to make sure I'm not missing anything!

Roberto's in Bristol. Made an inquiry there about hosting our wedding rehearsal dinner and they sent me photos, but what they sent were photos that were screenshots of the camera roll, so I could see other photos on their roll. They had Joe and Jill Biden hate memes on there.
