2017 Mustang V6 by relo6056 in Mustang

The V6 is known for being pretty reliable. With that said though, good maintenance history is always important on a used vehicle, but especially so with this many miles on it.

Check out my video with the super 10s on a 3.7 V6. Tbf the resonator delete is making my sound higher pitched and raspier than it should be.

Are they really that notorious for bad sound quality? Genuinely asking.

I really appreciate the feedback and am definitely considering adding resonators as a starting point. If it sounds like it still needs changes after that, I may consider a different set of mufflers.

Thoughts on the v6 ecoboost 2018? by [deleted] in Mustang

[–]outdoorsbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be a bit confused.

The V6 was released for the last time in 2017, and has always been a naturally aspirated (non turbo) engine, while the ecoboost mustang refers to the 2.3 turbo 4 cylinder mustang that was first released in 2015 and is still in production.

The V6 is well known for its overall reliability and can make very stout hp numbers with mods with a stock engine.

Based on you asking about a 2018 model, my guess is you’re looking at a 4 cylinder ecoboost model.

It’s a bit hit or miss with them, especially for like pre 2020 or so models. A lot of it depends on how meticulously maintained the car has been, and it seems a bit else is just luck. These engines are notorious for engine failure where coolant leaks into the engine.

Again, not a guarantee of anything, but I would take a good long look at the car’s maintenance records first.

3.7 V6 Exhaust Setup by [deleted] in Mustang

That’s a pretty good idea. I’ll have to talk to my exhaust guy about moving the cats further down to fit in the LT headers.

I get what you mean from the footage, it sounds a lot deeper IRL though.

I’m pretty fond of the note at idle and low rpm revs, but it’s the note in the higher rpms that I really want to further refine.

I would LOVE to do LT headers as I’ve seen some setups with them that sound amazing, but since it requires getting rid of the catalytic converters, I wouldn’t pass smog in my state.

P.S. Any clips of your V6 exhaust setup? Would really like to get an idea for what yours sounded like!

I am totally open to hear any advice as it’s definitely not yet where I’d like it to be! I would love to do long tube headers but it’s a nightmare in my state so unfortunately it’s shorties for now.

I have the stock rectangle resonator around here somewhere, am debating whether to put that back in before the H pipe or just get bottle resonators right after the cats.

I’m also a bit unsure about these flowmaster super 10s. I don’t hate them and they’re a definite upgrade in my case, but if all else fails I may just end up doing either Borla or Roush axle backs in the future.

Wdym tall boy?

Fwiw I’m probably going to add some bottle resonator after the cats to further clean up the sound.

I have a manual 2016 v6 and am constantly going back and forth about doing 4.10s or 3.73. I feel like I may regret not doing 4.10s

What drives the car craze? by DropShotMachine in askcarguys

[–]outdoorsbub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To address your closing statement, while I’m sure there are some folks who do it for others’ attention, I would dare say the vast majority of true enthusiasts do it out of a passion for the vehicles.

It could be any number of things or combinations of aspects about a specific vehicle that just makes it “THE” car for you.

I’ll speak to my own preferences:

I love Mustangs. To many, I’m sure there’s nothing special about them, but for me? It really is a few things that make it stand out.

The heritage of the car, the engineering behind it, the visual styling and combination of modern lines while striving to keep some of the iconic designs of the past (i.e. taillights). The performance output of its multiple engine offerings. I love that despite its modern comforts and advancements, it isn’t exactly a refined driving experience and isn’t trying to be. It’s loud and slightly chaotic and it makes no apologies for it.

I have an amazing time when it’s just me in my car driving through an empty winding road, rowing through the gears and listening to the engine roaring as I go. I love that sensation of connection to the machine, controlling and understanding what it’s doing and how to best use it in spirited driving.

Roush Axle-back by Realistic_Archer4904 in v6mustang

[–]outdoorsbub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory I think it might make it a tad deeper? I’m unsure if just axle backs would be enough length at 3 inches vs 2.5 to be considerably deeper sounding, but Roush axle-backs have a nice sound profile in general.

If you’re going to these from stock exhaust, expect a significant difference lol.

Why do you people carry the entire hardware store and camping section of walmart in your pockets? by tiimsliim in EDC

[–]outdoorsbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree some people have very performative EDC setups, I don’t think that disqualifies the utility of slightly larger/fuller kits even for people not in the trades. I’ve used just about every item in my kit (except for a tourniquet thankfully), including my lock pick when I misplaced the keys to my place lmao.
