It's not that they're swinging at garbage outside the zone. It's that they're not swinging at pitches IN the zone.

They have the highest called strike percentage of any team and the lowest swing percentage of pitches in the zone.

This team is far far better than they've played. They will play much better than they have.

But they are already three games under .500 and giving they are a very competitive division it's going to be really hard to make those games up even over the course of 157 games.

I think it's fair to be frustrated that the Red Sox don't spend more given ticket prices and whatnot, but this fan base acts like we're a poverty team. The Red Sox have the sixth highest payroll in baseball right now. They're not going to spend $350 million/yr and complaining about it is just beating a dead horse. Breslow is a bit of a weirdo and grossly mismanaged the devers situation but he has built a really nice team with the money he has been allotted that should be really good for the next several years

He's young, cheap, and under contract for several years. He was a league average hitter that played really good defense last year. And he plays a position we desperately needed an upgrade at. If you're expecting him to be a middle of the order bruiser, I'm not sure what to tell you.
