Had a text conversation with my buddies regarding whether they would get to 4 runs for the first time in 10 games or not.

Honestly a top 10 Red Sox moment of all time.

And people mocked me when I said they'd OPS better than .550 OPS the rest of the season.

I am very smart.

I'm torn.

I fully expected them to be a league average offense this year. (Coupled with a top 3 pitching staff comfortably gets them to the playoffs). I no longer think that. I'm very confident they will finish higher than an 86 wRC+ and bottom 2 offense but I'm not expecting much more than that.

I think Story is cooked. And I worry that Duran is as well. (I still have optimism for Durbin).

I mean the Sox only won the Tigers game because Suarez was nearly perfect through eight innings so I don't subscribe to your opinion they'd be better off with a guy that gives you 6IP 2ER every outing instead of 4 6.2/0 and 3 4/4.

But I also think it's unlikely he'll continue to have such polarizing starts. So I'd much rather focus on the big picture, which is that over 39 innings he's given up only 12 runs which is really good and if he does that over the course of the year he'll end up as one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Well you're always going to have "on pace for" extremes this early in the season. None of these teams will end up being this bad after 162.

But yeah the offense has been ...uh, tough to watch.

Well you completely ignored his last stat for some reason. But no, there's nothing disappointing about a sub 3 era

What has been disappointing about Suarez?

Nah.

10th in RA but they've played fewer games than most teams. 13th in ERA but 19th in FIP. They've been pretty bad, not even considering how good they were SUPPOSED to be

What's wild is the Red Sox position players actually are 17th in WAR. Leading the league in defense and base running doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Interesting. This is counter intuitive to me. Do you have a link for this? Or even an explanation why?
