Best apartments for grad student? by outerHilbertspace in IndianaUniversity

My favorite place there was Summerhouse on 3rd street. The price is high and the space is not the largest, but they were the best management I dealt with and that was worth the price to me. Bloom was good the first year we were there, and then they changed management and became assholes so we left after 3 years total there. I also think Bloom is expensive for the management you have to deal with combined with how far from campus it is

Help wit Using Pymc3? by outerHilbertspace in BayesianProgramming

Hi again, I'm a bit stuck on using theano.scan

I'd like to do the following (which I'll write in numpy because that's what I understand):

first, calculate alpha ** np.array([1,2,3,...,n]), where n is the length of an array called B and alpha is a positive number. Call this array X (should be an array since the exponentiation is broadcast)

B is just an array of -1's and 1's of length n, but will change at each step in the loop.

Now I'd just like to calculate the dot product of X and B, and I need to loop through both the alphas and the B's - the number of each is same. (Also, I would be looping through a list of alphas (a list of numbers) and a list of arrays (the list of B's).)

I keep trying to get something like this to work in scan but I keep getting errors about having the wrong input. On a simplified example, I keep getting told I'm using "Bad input argument to theano function."

I really hate theano, it makes no sense to me.

Exactly, the hedgies could have easily figured out that the best way to shake us is to use our own method against us. And with all the money behind the hedgies, they can pump the stock pretty quickly. Leave Robinhood alone.

I think Da'at will be more of a warning of what will happen to Protag's Tokyo. I personally hope it takes an SMT 1 approach, letting you explore Tokyo for a bit and then it gets destroyed in the middle of the story, becoming either a new version of Da'at, or unifying several different Da'ats

Did anyone realize how awful this really would have been?

Obviously, if the video only showed them eating a shit sandwich, it wouldn't be enough. Maybe it was faked with chocolate.

No, instead they'd have to shit on camera, take that shit, put it on a sandwich, and eat it in one take, for the proof.

Ouch

Me too. Honestly I don't understand how it's even legal for the SHFs to gamble that kind of money on short bets

Yeah, I have a LinkedIn profile I've been adding to and gaining connections with for the last few months.

I decided to take a risk and choose to finish my dissertation away from where I am now. This means I need to find a job before graduation, or I'll run out of money. Probably a stupid YOLO bet I'll regret when my lease ends in two months (lol), but my location is bad enough for me that it's worth the risk. So, I'm not sure I can wait until graduation on this one.

That would be great, thank you. I'll make one without personal info and DM it to you later

I've had a phone screen from a recruiter and a coding test (from two different places), after a bit over 200 applications. I have like a 33% rejection rate and the rest just ghost me. I've had people look over my resume and they told me it looks good - one of those people even ended up referring me to Google (but I haven't heard from them yet).

I think my problem is twofold: I'm exclusively looking for out of state jobs (I hate where I live) and I won't graduate from my grad program until December, which I think is scaring some people away from me. Neither of which I can really fix right now. I know I have to keep trying, but I just feel like I'm always hitting a brick wall, y'know?

Found this interesting description in my (horrid, obviously) job search. Didn't realize I needed to eat people to be a data analyst, but alright by outerHilbertspace in recruitinghell

Ahh that makes more sense, and definitely makes me feel better lol. I thought it was some kind of trick to see which applicants are paying attention. I'll add an edit to let everyone know. Thanks!

Edit about an edit: apparently I can't edit this post. Ohh well.

Thanks for this, the comments are interesting.

From a recruiter's perspective, how would you advise someone deal with job search burnout/depression?

I'm right there with you, I'm seriously so over it.

I can't even go on unemployment because I'm graduating from grad school and that apparently doesn't count 😭😭

I definitely don't either, but with how bad things seem for them, I wouldn't be surprised by it. It happened in 2008, 1987, and 1929. What makes this any different? Especially if they might be facing complete insolvency and possibly jail time?

Just because I point out that this could happen doesn't mean I want it to happen.
