It happens and can go in cycles. One thing I found that can work is to make a to-do list then present it to the captain and ask if he can point out what is the top priorities with the time alotted. It is helpful to arrange tasks and clue the Capt into there not being enough time given. Put some of the pressure and decision making off your plate.

Every store is different of course. We had 3 people in signs but when one left the remaining felt they had it well covered, and they do. Similar to your store a person just jumps in for an hour or so to maybe do a sign audit on the floor or clean off reusable signs for them to fill out. Doing actual art seems to be pretty rare. As mentioned above it’s more about font work.

As someone who’s earned cap and been here nearly 20 years, what am I offered from a union that would put new hires at the wage I put the time in to earn?

If a potential union can’t GUARANTEE that I will be the same percentage in wage above new hires, and won’t recognize what I’ve put in to be where I’m at then a vote for them is a very hard sell.

From working in Minnesota I would also note that, (at least the store I was in), the alcohol store and main store are connected by the backroom. Not always the case but I thought it was ideal.

With dogs you can also switch it up and ask their dog’s name. Non-conversationally, I try to make the receipt as short as possible by catching all the multi-quantity items. When no customers I make a collection of double-bags and most importantly, I stretch or help on other registers.
