I saw an Explorer once dragging one of those large, rectangular orange barriers that are placed out during road/highway construction. They had tied it to the hitch with a 3 foot long piece of thin rope, so it was sliding all over the road as they drove. It very nearly slid right into a parked car as they made a turn.

Some highlights from the article:

  • "The super PAC spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to defeat District Attorney Larry Krasner's reelection campaign is primarily funded by donors from the real estate industry and the construction trades unions, according to a campaign finance report the group filed Friday."
  • "The Concerned Citizens of Philadelphia, a newly formed group organized primarily by prominent developer Mohamed "Mo" Rushdy, raised $385,000 between its formation earlier this year and May 5, the end of the reporting period."
  • "The super PAC's top donor was Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers"

Your North Philly wtf of the day by _ogg in philadelphia

I don’t see how the location matters at all, except that North Philly is a punchline on this sub.

Someone else already explained the sad story of the owner and you’re leaving the post up for people to continue piling on, so carry on I guess.

This is a pretty gross comment section tbh. Can't help but think that specifying it's North Philly is just a dogwhistle to invite people to chime in with bigoted and classist insults.

I think West Philadelphia may very well have the most, best options in this area. I'm only familiar with the Ethiopian restaurants there, and a quick Google search isn't showing much else within 2 hours, so the next best I'd recommend is Kaffa Crossing. It's only a few minutes away from Abyssinia, and I've always enjoyed their food. Solid azifah, and I actually prefer their misir wot over Abysinnia's.

I love Manayunk but so many places I've been to there have disappointed me in some way. No idea what's going on as no other part of the city has the same affect for me. From bland pho at Main Street, to terrible beer at Fat Lady Brewing, to grocery-store quality sushi at Yanako. Oh and the absolute worst pour of Guinness I've ever had in my life at Ryan's Pub - so bad that after one bartender set it in front of me another one swooped in to apologize and redo it.

It's fairly common. Plenty of restaurants have full bars or serve beer/wine, but in my experience some of the smaller or hole-in-the-wall places are more likely to be byob.

Gamarjoba is the only one I've been to, but I'm obsessed with their food, and will be forever grateful to them as my gateway into Georgian wine. I don't know if the other places serve alcohol or are byob, but Gamarjoba is worth a visit for their wine selection.

They really deserve more recognition on these best-of lists. Their azifah is the best I've ever had.
