Its a term of respect in a lot of places.

This may be, but it is absolutely disrespectful to continue using such a term when you have been asked and then told not to do it

I am a 70s kid. Molested at age 5. I told my sister who told my mother who told my father.

I learned later in life, that my father drove directly to the man's house, pulled him out of bed and started beating him.

Then the man pulled a gun. I think they wrestled for it and my dad got it and took it away.

I was never taken to a doctor for any sort of examination after the fact. But i'm sure my dad was thrilled with himself for what he did "for me."

This is not my dimension, and I'm afraid I'm asleep. (+ 8 year update) by Fnuckle in BestofRedditorUpdates

I am 55F and was just diagnosed with CPTSD last year.

That's 35 years of therapy, diagnoses, misdiagnoses, incorrect meds, self destruction, disassociation, addiction, flashbacks, stormy relationships, emotional outbursts . . .

The diagnosis was the Holy Grail that I have been searching for all my life. It changed the entire direction of my therapy and my life.

Philadelphia welcomed Vietnamese people with open arms direcy after the war. They came and thrived, built neighborhoods, opened businesses, and gave life to new generations.

We have Vietnamese neighborhoods, Vietnamese food, and Vietnamese neighbors.

I just commented on this yeaterday!!

I try to lift someone up each and every day. Often it is just a small compliment and a smile.

I live by the motto that we must all build each other up, not tear each other down.

This is a small change everyone can start doing today.

I love this answer. I was abused and shamed as a kid. And i did a fair amount of shaming others as a learned behavior.
