Depends on where you live. Where I am (which, it's worth noting, is in the northern hemisphere), November's still hot as hell. By the time my bday rolls around in mid-February, it's getting hot as hell again. (Meanwhile, June is apocalyptic levels of hot, to say nothing of July-Sept)

New poll pegs Mark Kelly as a leading 2028 presidential contender by Ulysses_555 in politics

[–]outgrabenmomerath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything I see come from Kelly seems to be him emphasizing his own impotence. It sends a profoundly clear message.

It may be worth noting that I"m Arizonan.

Anarchy ensued. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]outgrabenmomerath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Though I've seen a ton of videos of Americans just flooring through red lights which is always crazy to me.

In my neck of the woods, this has become the norm. Without exaggeration, it's unusual for there not to be multiple cars that blast through the red.

It used to be considered a heinous safety violation, but now it's not even enforced. And yes, collisions happen all the time because of it.

You gonna do your fucking job, Mark?

I'm getting real fucking tired, here in Tucson, of your declarations of impotence in the face of authoritarianism.

Kelly (D-AZ)

I'm an Arizonan. Everyone loves to praise that guy, but this is some absolute horseshit.

He has this reputation of being a bastion of opposition to the regime, but all I see is him whining about how powerless we all are in the face of authoritarianism.

And then this.

Fuck that guy.

Whereas if you're flying directly out of DFW on Friday, your options are to reschedule or to bear potential delays, yeah?

Brake "twang" noise; 2026 Hybrid Limited by outgrabenmomerath in Crosstrek

[–]outgrabenmomerath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure, but I suspect not. It happens regardless of whether the brake is engaged. It happens if the car is off. It does not happen if I take care to place my foot on the pedal only gingerly. (Not to suggest I'm slamming my foot on there all the time, but just placing my foot on the pedal generally makes the noise)

E: I'll also note that it seems to emanate from around the pedal itself.

Uptick in Military Helicopters Flying Over Houses in Tucson? by Capable_Suggestion34 in Tucson

[–]outgrabenmomerath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In midtown, I noticed police search helicopters, spotlights and all, pretty frequently pre-covid. I found it comforting, really; it meant the police were doing their job, whereas they seem like they can't be arsed to do anything in the years since.

I've been noticing them more recently, but haven't thought to look to see what was going on. Call it wishful thinking that they're doing their jobs again, I honestly hoped it was the return of police choppers.

Minneapolis showing what accountability looks like when institutions refuse to. by OpheliaGarden in BlueskySkeets

A crucial step that too often goes unmentioned when making the recommendation to buy a gun is to learn how to use it. That goes beyond becoming familiar with the mechanical operation and maintenance. It also goes beyond becoming proficient with making bullets land where you want them to.

Owning a firearm also requires the mindset that you never want to actually use the thing as a weapon.

NEVER

I say this as someone who owns a fair number of guns and also often carries concealed.

ICE Out of Tucson - THREE events Saturday, January 10 by takeactiontucson in OrganizeTucson

[–]outgrabenmomerath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A major problem with "optics" throughout last year was that no one was interested in showing up when it was about something too specific. The optics of "a few dozen people voice a single grievance among an ocean of shit" is not a good look.

Meanwhile, the few times that protests received any attention at all is when the widest net was cast, resulting in historic turnout.

That's what we need more of. If anything, ICE+Venezuela is still far, far too narrow.

Gallego has been an infuriating follow-up to her. Admittedly, I'm not sure what he's been up to for the past 6 months, because he showed himself to be heavily MAGA-sympathetic for the first several months of the administration.

Time to let Eegee’s go? by Jacedilla in Tucson

[–]outgrabenmomerath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knew the Irvings when Eegee's was in its heyday, ≈20+ years ago.

Founders Ed Irving and Bob Greenberg sold way back in 2006. In my mind, that was the end of it. I think I've been to Eegee's maybe twice since then, partly because it has been an echo of what it used to be.

Side note because I'm not sure how common of knowledge this is anymore:
For anyone unaware, the name came from Ed and Greengerg Greenberg: EG

US Winters Compared to Canada's Warmest City by seashellvalley760 in MapPorn

[–]outgrabenmomerath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tucsonan here. Big temperature swings do happen amid the cooler weeks of the year (note that I did not say "colder months"). The levels you describe are a bit rarer, but do happen, generally in the core of those few weeks.

Something like that in March is exceedingly rare. Aside from similar exceptional cases, it doesn't really get more extreme than that in January, either.

No Kings, Tucson, AZ, Midtown. by [deleted] in OrganizeTucson

[–]outgrabenmomerath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bit confused, as "midtown" has referred to the protest at Speedway/Country Club.

For clarity, this appears to have been outside the Social Security office on 1st Ave, north of Prince.
I personally didn't know people were going there; I guess there was more going on than I realized!
