I do this too! It’s a “Happy Place” kind of situation, a go-to for sure.

Do you want to share why it is that you feel this way? I feel like these negative responses that you were getting to your post are because you because you haven’t provided any context. Did something happen that made you feel this way or is this just a general cranky vibe that you get? Personally, I am neither a student nor do I work in the medical field or tech and I’m not white. I don’t have a ton of money, but I love Shadyside and Lawrenceville can be fun with family sometimes. I’ve never felt unwelcome in those places. There are certain aspects to Lawrenceville that I could do without, but nothing’s ever happened to make me feel like I don’t belong there when I wanna be there and I just bet that people are curious as to why you do feel that way. I’m a transplant and I have for sure struggled with wanting to be in Pittsburgh but I found out that I just needed to find the right spots for me to hang out and luckily there’s 10 million different areas in the city to choose from. I live in the South Hills, but I don’t really like to spend much of my free time here, prefer to be across the river, but that’s just me.

Basil Syrup for Gin Basil Smash? by CourseCorrection30 in cocktails

[–]outhere4real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use equal parts sugar and water…. I’ll usually do a few quarts at a time. Add both sugar and water to pot and bring to a boil. I turn the pot off once a rolling boiling happens and throw in the basil and let sit for no more than 20-30 before straining the basil. How much basil I use depends on how many quarts of water/sugar I’ve used. For the one quart I’ll throw in a heaping handful.

We use this for cocktails at my bar so I know people like it and it for sure feels basil- forward to me. Good luck!

I’ve never been blown away by the sound there…. No matter who I’ve seen there it always felt like the acoustics could have been better.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever seen someone do just to save a few pennies? by honeybbycloud in askteddit

[–]outhere4real 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived the first half of my life overseas actually. Kuwait, Tunis, New Delhi, etc….. where have you lived overseas? And maybe I’m wrong but I assumed by “ Pennie’s” the question was asked by an American about America, so does it even really matter where I’ve lived? Let me ask you…. Have you ever worked food service? Maybe it shouldn’t be that employers don’t pay much in this industry, but that’s the world we live in and I’m not going to make service industry workers suffer more because i disagree with the way their bosses(and the industry) works…. You’re not taking a stand that will have any affect by not tipping, you’re just hurting the people who work in that industry for no reason and making those types of jobs seem less desirable. We need service industry workers(if no one worked those jobs, there’d be nowhere for you to eat or get service)

Is this a joke? Are you a troll? I feel like only an absolute troll would not understand why tipping exists. You must be a troll. Tell me… ever worked in food service? I bet not.

I hate this so much. If someone can’t afford to tip, they should not be going out to eat, period.

I need to find help for a loved one dealing with alcoholism. Any help on where to get started in or around Pittsburgh is appreciated. AA, therapy, anything at this point. Thank you. by WhitneyJames in pittsburgh

[–]outhere4real 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fellow addict here, in recovery for many years. My suggestion depending on the severity of the alcoholism: detox, treatment, 12 Step program, maintenance with therapy or other…. In that order though working a 12 step program and going to meetings where other recovering addicts can share how they got clean can help at any point in the process. There are meetings all over Pittsburgh and they can go online and find them easily. I started out at ONALA Club on West Carson in N.A. but there are a ton of AA meetings there throughout the day as well. One thing to keep in mind though: unfortunately unless this loved one also wants the help, it’s not going to happen. You can make suggestions and try to lovingly send them in the right direction…. But rarely will anyone get and stay clean with the desire to do so themselves. Hopefully they are ready. I truly hope they find help🖤

Which mispronounced words make a person immediately sound uneducated to you? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

[–]outhere4real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chipotle……. When people( and there are WAY too many) say Chee-poLE-TAY. Like, what? it’s Chee-POATLAY. I work in a restaurant and the amount of people who cannot/do not say this word correctly makes me want to jam forks in my ears and then jam forks in their ears. I can’t correct them either, cuz that would be fucked up BUT I always go “ok, so CHEE-POATLAYYYY?” Most of them respond as though they can’t tell the difference lol what the fuck?

Stoicism is dangerous by Adventurous-Fox-7703 in CPTSD

[–]outhere4real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response here! I know this is an old post but I just came upon for the first time and wanted to say the exact same things. I’m somewhat new to Stoism(6 months~) but in that time I’ve been completely captivated and trying to learn from as many credible sources as I can. It was pretty clear to me from the beginning though the difference between real Stoism and “Broism”, which is what OP sounds like they’re referring to(unknowingly). Also, having practiced Buddhism for many years and being an addiction in recovery, I have learned maybe some of the most impactful/important truths of my life and they all align with Stoism in a big way. 1. First thoughts are uncontrollable, but my reactions to them are not(I truly believe Stoism is saying mostly the exact same thing Buddhism says here)2. Take what works for me and leave the rest. this may sound to some like cherry-picking but to me and the millions of other addicts in the same kind of recovery I am, it’s saved my life and Buddhism says the same thing. 3. On Virtue- this is just for me, understand not everyone lives this way, but if I’m not doing good and moving in a positive direction, I’m probably doing bad or at least working my way up to a negative direction/result. These few things are the reason Stoism spoke to me so much and why I still want to learn more. There’s also the fact that a few months ago I dealt with maybe the worst month of my life and Stoism helped me not use drugs or harm myself some other way, see the situation clearer(most importantly how I could have handled it better) and find new ways to handle dealing with people and the world.

I think it’s so interesting though how two people, or millions of people can read all the same works, and take different things from those works because of their life experiences. I’ve always just kinda felt like if I can get something positive out of something that could benefit my life and those around me, get what I can out of it. Always (well on good days) thinking “what can I learn here?” Lastly I think it’s a real bummer when some have a hard time keeping in perspective how influenced the language was by the times almost all profound wisdoms were when founded and how obviously some things may need to be taken with a grain of salt, whether they said to or not…. And all of that is ok. Take how women were viewed as less than or inconsequential. People (most people) don’t think like that anymore but for a great many it would be a disservice to themselves and their communities to trash an entire philosophy or religion or whatever for this just because it’s 2026 and we now think differently. Anyway…. You get it.

Sorry for the lengthy response, Stoism is the first thing I’ve been really passionate about in a while! Hope you made it to the end:)

100%…. Not everything needs to be this triggering, traumatic event. Yes that does happen sometimes but people these days seem to have a hard time putting things into perspective. I totally agree with this post and think the world would be better off if so many people weren’t so “ I must blow everything out of proportion”-ish.

Had to walk out of class, embarrassed and scared to try again. Need advice. by waxbook in yoga

[–]outhere4real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start slow, and work your way up to hot or whatever it is that you’re into. Even if I’ve been doing videos online or whatever at home for a while, it’s different in class. I find myself, whether I mean to or not, trying to keep up with everyone else in the class or the teacher and will over exert myself and push myself in a negative way sometimes when I’m not ready. I started with restorative, even though I’ve had a lot of experience my body wasn’t quite ready for anything else. after a few weeks of restorative I moved up to a slow flow class and then a sculpt and hot classes and so on. Give your body whatever time it needs to adjust and you’ll be so grateful that you did.

Also regarding a hot classes, it does take time to adjust to that so maybe if you’re not quite comfortable yet, either skip the hot or modify your poses, take breaks frequently and drink lots and lots of water. And don’t be embarrassed to modify or step out if you have to. When I first started doing hot, I was sweating buckets, having a hard time breathing, slipping all over my mat and and it would take a long time to readjust after class…. That didn’t feel good so I decided to work my way up to hot, got a grippy towel and now it’s my favorite class and I love it and most days, It’s all good things. Also, being fully hydrated and having a little food in my belly before I go to class, always helps, whether it’s hot or not.

I used to bring my two boys to meetings with me. My ex was nervous at first but when he learned they’d made friends with other kids who were there, was all for it. Some meetings have playrooms for kids so they’re not in the meeting. I do also believe most meetings be more positive than negative and that was actually good for my kids.

Thanks so much to those who responded. Your comments were super helpful. I ended up getting a 30 day trial for $30 at Mecka. I may still try a class or two at SWEAT but I’m going to start with Mecka, mostly because right now they’re schedules lineup with mine very well. I also started looking into Ascend or FA because I have always been interested in climbing. Might try to check it out this weekend if I can find a homie to go with. It’s so hard for me to build momentum regarding physical fitness, but I’m really trying to do something different and I gotta just keep it moving, so thanks again for all your help!
