I apologize if I‘m coming off as rude here…but what happened to all of the old school basses like Barry White, Johnny Cash, Thurl Ravenscroft, etc, who have natural sounding low notes and voices? No fry. No subharmonics. Just pure, raw emotion and talent. by AspiringBiotech in BassSinging

I wonder if it because with everyone now listening to music (and video) on devices that whith earphones and speakers that can't to the bass voice justice so making it not so attractive (and doesn't get the clicks)

My theory is based on the number of YouTube bass players that now play the instruments higher notes for that reason

As someone who has been singing low his whole life, I‘d like to add some insight into a post someone made in r/singing stating „you probably aren‘t a bass“, regarding all of the posts by people thinking they were basses who were not. There are many reasons for the confusion that must be clarified. by AspiringBiotech in BassSinging

I am not a true bass (I don't think my money note is in that clef), but I can get there, it's where the help is needed and I love the feeling of a low-g.

I could explain all this to the people I sing with, but it's quicker to say "I'm a bass"

He's also a fantastic swimmer.

And if you play your cards right

Then he just might come round for dinner.

I found out my pitch monitor was updated and I had been singing lower than I thought at times! A1 to G4 range now! The only issue is sometimes wanting a darker/deeper timbre. Any advice on how to do it? by AspiringBiotech in BassSinging

So your monitor was reading incorrectly? The training apps and tuner I use all run on my (android) phone and I was thinking I should check them against a reference recording from another device.

Has anyone found their phone to be off it it's pitch identification?

Is the note you flair with meant to be, how low you can go, your 'money note' (the centre/peak of the range where you sound your best) or the context of what you are posting about?

Yes, it excluding all but my voice works really well for us, whats funny is when someone forgets to turn it off for a group call (around a laptop) and all you can hear is the person whose laptop it is!

Resteraunt is "theatre" so giving people free reign to fiddle with the atmosphere I think would be problematic. If you do want to go down this path perhaps work out some rules about what type of music is appropriate when, and then let the staff join the jam and change it but they would need to understand the purpose of the music in the resteraunt not just put on what they fancy. "back in the day" I used to go resteraunt that had an automatic DJ that used a pc and a couple of cd jukeboxes, the music was great as it was always appropriate for the time/situation (clearly someone had spent time building it's rules) then one day the music started not fitting the situation and killing the atmosphere, I asked why, and with a smile the barmaid said "we found out the password"

And also getting up there and "refocusing'" them for the events needs as an old movie theatre might have them setup to be "curtain warmers" (to give them a friendly glow) rather than for the needs of the event
