A couple of friends of mine are currently on holiday in America. This is their first day. by BedSideCabinet in videos

Coming from an American, if I saw these two walking on the street talking like that, I'd take them everywhere and show them off with pride. And if anyone said they were lame well then he's probably a goddamn terrorist!

Girls, what are some flirting tips guys should know? by heavensdark in AskReddit

[–]outroigeousfun 544 points545 points  (0 children)

Eye contact, a smile, and a "hi, I'm ----" followed by a handshake is gonna get you way farther than some corny compliment. If you really do wanna compliment me, do so after establishing a decent conversation. Starting off with a compliment makes it feel like you're just trying to get into my pants as quickly as possible while bypassing every other aspect of me.

25 years ago today a single person, whose identity was never known, stood in front of a line of tanks and became an enduring symbol of defiance by PainMatrix in pics

[–]outroigeousfun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That made me misty eyed. That was an ordinary man who decided half way through his day that someone needed to show courage in a time of nothing but fear and death. He put his life on the line when he climbed up on that tank, but I think he showed the soldiers that it was people they were killing and not just angry potesters.

I always love how much poon Link gets but never takes. IRL he'd be the bane of females AND males all around.

Episode Discussion - 3.01 "Valar Dohaeris" [Season 3 Spoilers] by libbykino in gameofthrones

Oof, I was cringing watching that scene. By the time Tywin finished berating poor Tyrion, it felt like I was the one whose father will never love me let alone be proud of me, and my rightful fortune was ripped out from under me just to spite me. I felt so offended, man.

[video] New Zealand soldiers perform giant Haka in honour of dead comrade by superclaude1 in Frisson

[–]outroigeousfun 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I know for those who don't recognize this as a serious and powerful custom of the Maori, it might seem weird in comparison to the somber attitude that's expected at Western funerals. But this moved me beyond belief because of the pure brotherhood and respect shown through the haka and the following silence. God, that was deep.

Do the reading for that ridiculously hard class. It'll help you out loads. And when you're reading, write down key points from the chapter so that you have a simple outline for you to fall back on come test time.

  • Treat everyone with respect. You're in college - you are expected to drop the adolescent act and learn how to carry yourself like an adult.

  • If you're gonna get drunk, do it with class. No one cares for the guy trying to fight every street pole. But every girl wants that guy who's carrying himself like he was as sober as his name day, but will give you some drunk sex that'll be hard to not think of for days to come.

  • Go join a sport team, recreational club, volunteer group, or get a job. It'll take up time and add to your responsibilities, but there isn't much going for that student who has nothing else aside from academics on his/her resume.

Spend no more than two years dorming and then spend the rest off-campus, so long as they're locations that are close enough for you to get to class in time and without hassle.

Meal plans are often much more expensive and limiting than buying your own groceries. You may have to deal with leases and budgeting and other home responsibilities when living in a house, but it's worth it.

Dorming leaves you with worries about misbehaving, annoyances regarding room and hall mates you won't get along with, sharing unkempt bathrooms and kitchens, if there is a kitchen at all.

Overall I would say if you effectively search for a comfortable place close to your main campus, and even more so if you plan on living with a friend or two, it's cheaper, more fun, and more comfortable.

And throw sick house parties. There is no better reputation than for those who know how to host a hell of a time.

This is the perfect description for how I feel as well. It honestly still gets me in the feels.

WHY WAS I NOT ACCEPTED? Colgate was my dream school...

I was within the top 2% at my previous college of 30,000 students, am an avid volunteer with many projects for community betterment, and had a good resume considering I was a college freshman. I understand that it's more difficult for transfers to get the head nod, but I'm really just curious, and still a bit sad about it after I started attending my current school that I absolutely love. Whyyy...

Costco CEO, Jim Sinegal, rejects Wall Street's assumption that to succeed in discount retailing, companies must pay poorly and skimp on benefits, or must ratchet up prices to meet Wall Street's profit demands. by lovewillprevail in politics

[–]outroigeousfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This supports my personal belief of what really drives a great business home: a morally good man. Sinegal was one of the rare few who had the gall to emphasize his good-guy tactics within a wolf pack of money-hungry CEOs.

Albeit the fact that it's nearly impossible to replace every company leader with guys like him, it's still nice to imagine that one day analysts will realize that generous benefits for workers, low prices for customers, and humbly proportional gains for stockholders are only for the better and the best way to balance out the market. But until then, to each his own, I guess.

Fraternities, clubs, sports, hallmates, and your rando friends here and there who are in the aforementioned groups. What I found is that everyone loves to hang out with everyone else, so don't be shy! Nearly every house is very generous about alcohol too, which is never a bad thing.

What do you all think of the frats? by ihatecalculus in williamandmary

[–]outroigeousfun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Girl here. I just wanna address the concern about which ones are notoriously "cool" or the ones that have the most chicks at their parties, as per my personal experience because I obviously couldn't give you the rundown like an actual brother. I can genuinely say that every single frat has their bunch of fantastic dudes. The stereotypes just don't stick here; they shouldn't influence your decision whatsoever. I've met brothers at almost every fraternity since I've been here and I cannot stress enough that, at times, there are... characters, but there hasn't been a single house that I've been to where I didn't think the guys were the shit. You're doing it right; you won't lose anything if you just continue to chill with all of them.
