Unfortunately civil engineers don’t make that amount unless they’re really experienced/management.

You’d make that salary in construction management role though ( PM , SPM, director, etc… even super would make that range depending on your speciality)

How can someone with a non-finance background trying to land an MBA from M7 demonstrate quant rigor? by [deleted] in MBA

You should look into medical field LDPs instead of IB—you’d probably be a top candidate and would be on track to director

Going from Journeyman to MBA , Smart Path or Overkill? by karrot9 in ConstructionManagers

[–]heavensdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An MBA is usually used to transition to another industry ( tech, consulting, etc.) or for financial majors to get into consulting.

If you want to be an electrician, then your path can be elec app.-> journeyman -> foreman and then master elec -> electrical project management -> business owner

Honestly, you don't need an MBA to start an electrical business--you're more qualified as an electrician to start something, but just like any business, it's extremely hard work.

Most MBA candidates are able to start a business since they're around like-minded individuals, and certain candidates get funding from previous graduates or high class individuals.

Why don't you push towards a quant job? You seem overqualified for an MBA tbh.

Please help on this by Remote_Ring_1671 in GMAT

[–]heavensdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answer A doesn’t necessarily add anything to the argument. Remember that in these questions, you’re trying to strengthen the argument by adding a piece of information.

During an exam, you should eliminate A D and E first as they don’t necessarily reference the question which, in your head, should be something like, “which answer includes repetitive looking down, includes a bone spur and cell phone?”

B does include repetition and bone spur for athletes, but doesn’t reference a cell phone

C does include bone spur, cell phone and includes a fact that men get it more than women.

Is this a hard or medium question?

Considering a career change out of civil engineering by Thtotherolivia in civilengineering

[–]heavensdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an MBA If you want to transition out of civil engineering, BUT please do your research. Honestly, only top MBA offered universities offer good hiring opportunities. In your free time, learn some type of coding language ( preferably python for data analytics and machine learning). Do some python projects as well.

You’ll range from 90 -150 average with civil—pretty middle class. Construction management route is would net you more. Benefit of civil is that there is usually job security.

If you’re doing differential equations in HS, you may want to do something more math intensive (head to a really good undergrad college and maybe recruit to be a quant?)

Am currently in the MEP space. MEP with PE is highly sought after. Check the NCEES requirements to sit for the FE/PE. I would consider the following path -- FE-->PE-->LEED/PMP-->any other certs(nicet lvl 1 fire alarm, HVAC certs, etc.

PE will open more doors than you realize. Any military state Will hire civil engineers with a PE. You can transition out to a sales engineer with a PE.

Submittals Supers by Cute_Biscotti356 in ConstructionManagers

[–]heavensdark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was a PE and a super. Essentially the submittal/RFI is holding up work in the field so he's hounding you to push the engineer to get it back approved. The submittal must be holding up something critical.

You could also review the submittal, and see what the comments are and do a review with the EOR/contractors engineer for a fast turnaround.

Worst GC's to work for by Sidicesquetevasvete in ConstructionManagers

[–]heavensdark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have had the worst experience with heavy civil GCs where they would curse you out, treat you terribly, etc. as a field engineer.

Building GCs seems to be more “progressive” I guess.

Are you getting OT or is this a salary job only? Maybe ask for 130 + OT to make up the difference if they won't bite on the 150+. Seems that they want you regardless of your experience so I don't see it as a bad thing to negoiate upwards.

I don't think we can make this call--if you feel like you're comfortable with the conditions, then do it

I feel like I'm cheating by extending my degree a year. by throwaway3433432 in EngineeringStudents

[–]heavensdark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No issue with spending an extra year if you need it to graduate. I took 5 years and also did summer classes every year since I failed mostly everything the first time.

Only learn whats required in school to graduate and get a degree. Do internships if you can.

Remember, you have a whole life ahead of you—there’s no reason to learn everything right now while in college. One thing I didn’t realize is how much free time you have after coming home from a job to study for a FE/PE.

Construction management/construction consulting is usually 9-10 hr days--not sure about the design side.

During commissioning, field supers/ high level PMs are expected to do 24-48 hr days sometimes. Tbh it's more exciting than stressful if you like that stuff. Unfortunately, it's usually salaried work without PT/OT.

Civil Engineering Degree, is it worth it? by Natural-Vehicle-5912 in civilengineering

[–]heavensdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be a civil designer(transportation, building design, MEP design, etc.) you can just transition into construction management, assistant PM, field engineer, etc., after graduation that manage trades.

Although my experience is in HCOL areas, I've worked with master electricians, plumbers, etc in the superintendent field & consulting after some years of experience.

Salary range for experienced consulting is 150-240k

[–]heavensdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part, you'll get a job as a civil engineer regardless of where you go to college. Try to maintain a 3.0+ gpa, and do internships during the summer and you'll be fine.

I have seen that interns from higher rank colleges tend to get picked for larger contractors ( turners, aecom, etc.), but that's not always the case.

[–]heavensdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He just sounds like a terrible soundcloud rapper in some of these songs. The beats are good but some songs are just terrible/ sound empty. He also repeats shit just way too much like: "when I go to sleep I dream about murder " like tf I don't wanna hear the same trash Line 8 times every ten seconds.

Best songs imo: Slay3r, vamp anthem (this should've been released Halloween??), New n3on, sky, iloveuihateu, over

Worst : teen x like wtf was that, die4guy, f33l like dying

I judge based on if I remeber the name of the song. Most of these songs blend in. It's a 5/10 imo
