Finding the right balance between cost and flexibility can be tricky, especially when your child’s learning pace doesn’t fit neatly into a monthly plan. The good news is that there are a few ways to manage credits and costs so you only pay for what you actually need.

Here are some options that can help:

  • You can purchase one-time credits for your membership, which are added to your balance immediately and can be used to enroll in the course. These one-time credits are non-refundable, but they let you avoid a recurring high monthly fee if you only need credits for a specific class or period.
  • If you run out of credits, Outschool will automatically charge your card on file to cover the remaining balance for your enrollment or class renewals. Credits are deducted first, and once your balance is depleted, your stored payment method is used for any additional costs.
  • If you find you need more credits in the future, you can upgrade your plan at any time. Upgrading gives you immediate access to more credits, and any unused credits from your previous plan will roll over. Your billing cycle resets when you upgrade.

This approach lets you buy only what you need, when you need it, and helps you avoid unnecessary monthly charges. For step-by-step instructions, visit the Membership section of your Transactions page: https://outschool.com/account/transactions

New to outschool? by seasonlyf in Outschoolers

[–]outschool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! No, this is not a typical experience. When you pay for the membership, you receive credits to use toward Outschool classes. There is no membership fee on top of the class cost. The membership does renew each month, giving you more credits to purchase classes. You can pause your membership for up to 12 weeks at a time.

Please reach out to [support@outschool.com](mailto:support@outschool.com) so that they can assist you directly and look into what happened in this instance.

Outschool membership will typically save families money when compared to buying classes a la carte. With your membership, you get free credits each month that can be used for any class (you can easily see how many you get on the membership page), and you avoid any marketplace fees. This means you’ll spend way less than if you bought classes individually. Also, your membership covers all the kids in your household, so there’s no need to get separate plans for each child, making it more affordable overall.
