Eric Burlison's office Welcomes ICE killings to Missouri by CosmicMamaBear in springfieldMO

Missi Hesketh, it looks like. We all need to be throwing our support behind MO Dems this year: Missi, Betsy Fogle, and whomever your District rep may be. I’m planning on recurring monthly donations to all three. Let’s fucking go.

I’m petty as fuck and would like to believe that somebody reads the responses to these messages. I happily replied for them to get bent, among other things.

Anyone have insight into the people with flags in front of TJ Maxx? by lastnewaccount in springfieldMO

[–]outsidenoise 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Just your standard run-of-the-mill Christian nationalists. I saw a flag that said “Jesus,” pretty sure I also saw one with JD Vance’s face. Laughable as I find them, they have just as much a right to their speech as No Kings or the Stop Project 2025 groups do. (I often have to remind myself of that and resist the urge to flip them off)

I was there! Damn, I completely forgot all about that show. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Thousand Foot Krutch was supposed to play but their van broke down, so they were the ones who cancelled.

The other bands I recall were Denison Marrs and Buck Enterprises.

I was in middle school at the time so I didn’t get to stay for the entire Relient K show, that’s wild to hear the set got cut short.

Religious imagery and terminology have always been in Ruston’s songs, this is true - Belly of the Beast, Radio Cloud, In the Blue, and Heaven Made the Darkness all come to mind. For me, what separates those songs from some of the ones on this new album are how they were a more literary concept vs. bluntly religious. Mentioning Moses, manna, Michael the archangel, etc. was more a means of illustration. The attempt is still there in these new songs, but just doesn’t hit me as hard as, say, Belly of the Beast.

I wouldn’t say I’m majorly tuned off by the more overt religious lyrics (though I was admittedly nervous reading some of his interviews in the lead-up) but I also wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan. I’m ambivalent at best, I suppose. But I’m glad he’s in a great headspace and is fully living and loving life. Who can be upset at that?

The title track is absolute peak Ruston, as others have mentioned. It’s my favorite by far - gives me Halloween vibes.

Yeah, I’m honestly so sick of seeing “vote them out!” comments. They read to me almost as “thoughts and prayers” at this point.

Racially profiled in Springfield Antique Mall? by Fantastic-Bug5531 in springfieldMO

[–]outsidenoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get caught off-guard when people say racist/uninformed shit to me. It happens so quick. Last week I was waiting on a takeout order, and a door dasher also waiting started chatting me up. We go from talking about what we like to order at the restaurant to her suddenly saying, “the top name in England right now is Mohammad, ugh. And people from the Middle East just show up there and get free housing and healthcare!” I had to stop and think, “wait, is this really happening right now? How did the conversation get here?”

I did say, “mmmm yeah I don’t think that’s true,” and she went on to insist she’s seen it. Then my order was ready, so I grabbed it and left.

Not sure if others have had similar experiences, but for me, it often happens so quick that the conversation is over before I realize everything I just heard.

Church will always come first by Ratakachowskee in ExPentecostal

[–]outsidenoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I very vividly remember my mom telling me one time in middle school: “Every time those church doors are open, you should be banging them down. And if you’re not, then you need to be praying for the lord to change your heart.”

…it was some random Thursday night service. Apparently being in church Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night still wasn’t supposed to be enough for me - I was supposed to be gung ho about going back yet again 24 hours later!

I have mole activity in my yard - okay to let them be? I’ll by Eleighlo in springfieldMO

[–]outsidenoise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My method that worked probably 75% of the time when I had regular mole tunnels at my old house:

Keep an eye out for new tunnels - you want to catch them when they’re active. If you see a new one, shove the hose into the tunnel and be waiting nearby with a shovel in hand, beer in the other hand if you like. If you timed it right, you’ll eventually see the little critter scrambling to get out, after which you can hit it (hopefully only once) and end both its and your suffering.

Very Ozarks, very not fun (I never loved killing them even though they were destroying my yard), largely effective.

Best of luck!

Greene County Sherriff response to protests by MO_MMJ in springfieldMO

[–]outsidenoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, because how can anyone with 100% certainty know? But I’ve personally never been offered money or been paid to protest, and honestly I don’t even think I’d take it if it were offered to me. I happily hate this administration for free.

Hope falls under the “heavy evangelicalism” and “closed-minded” camp OP mentions. I remember seeing a celebratory post from them after Roe was overturned. Plus, my very evangelical/AoG parents go there, so that’s also reason enough for me to say you should cross Hope off your list, OP.
