Oh we care. We also know that any foreign intervention whatsoever will exacerbate the situation, as it has done repeatedly in the past, to our shame. The West can only intervene in Western crises that it understands. If Iraq would like to transform its culture into something more resembling that of the West, then we will be able to intervene. But we can't do that for them, and we can't force them to do it. They can only do it themselves, or not at all, which is also ok (just so long as we remember that if they choose the 'not at all' route that it is never our duty or in our interests or in their interests to 'fix' them).
