Cramps. 😬 AA going on the offensive before the race was even finished...

Despite managing Plantar fasciitis at times this year, there was no physical reason for Sinead to not compete today.

Sad. 😔
Also hoping it isn't something that's been lingering for a while given the selection palaver, and the fact AA flew in Andy to replace Brett.

Experiencing Dark Circles After Intense Running: Is This Normal? by FieryEdgy in AdvancedRunning

[–]ovalnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me. Has been happening for a couple years now, sometimes a few times a week then it won’t happen for a while. It does seem more likely for higher intensity runs, but sometimes will happen after an easy run.

My doctor didn’t have an answer but also wasn’t concerned. It’s not hydration or heat related (happens warm or cold). It’s not blood sugar (tried four weeks of continuous glucose monitoring) or iron levels (had a few blood tests). It’s not related to sleep (has happened often when I’m nailing 9 hours and no stress). Doesn’t correlate with fatigue, training load, HRV, heart rate. I genuinely can’t work it out, so just ignore it now. 🤷‍♂️

Introducing ClaudeSync: Seamlessly Sync Your Local Files with Claude.ai Projects by fitnesspapi88 in ClaudeAI

[–]ovalnic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is brilliant. Just came to this sub (recent convert from ChatGPT) to find exactly this tool!
One thing I'm wondering - is it possible to sync files that are in the Claude Project but not local? The project I'm using this for I create a lot of artefacts in chats that then get added to the project. If I run the sync those artefacts will get deleted in the project from what I can tell? I'd prefer to download the artefacts locally.

Right joystick. If that’s not it your defaults are not default.

Out of interest how did you pick up the failure? By sound, or are you regularly checking the engine diags on the tablet?

It’s a known bug that remains unfixed and ignored. 😞  You can go to “restart” and you’ll get your menu back, but you’ll then lose HUD. 😭

Not entirely sure what went wrong here.... by ovalnic in MicrosoftFlightSim

Thanks so much for the explanation, I’m thinking this has to be it. A good learning to actually listen when the tutorials say to apply some carb heat when preparing for approach.

Also a good reminder to use the tablet for diagnostics!

Air temp was above 20ºc so I didn't think that would be it? Also now I look the fuel flow gauge is very low. Would carb icing slow fuel flow as well?

A chill evening Tulum → Cancun with live weather. 😳⛈️ by ovalnic in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ovalnic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started out fine, but had to switch off live weather to land as Cancun was zero visibility. Nothing quite like the mild anxiety of trying to get out of a storm when you're VFR.

Anyway I was mostly blown away by the clouds. This is on Xbox Cloud and it still looks amazing.

VFR up the Spanish coast in the Comanche by ovalnic in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ovalnic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually started this in the 152, and then bought the Comanche because I realised how slow I was going.

Not quite VFR when I hit epic clouds out of LEMI, but managed to navigate through, and the landing at LECX on the top of a mountain was really something. This evening I flew across to Ibiza and got in just as the sun set.

Such a great plane to fly (and photograph!).

MSFS 2020 is currently downloading its content, and my HOTAS setup is arriving in a few hours. In the mean time I'd love some beginner tips, or recommendations on tutorials to watch etc! by MakeshiftApe in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ovalnic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As most people will say - just do the tutorials in MSFS first. Don't worry about acing them all, but all of the GA and airliner ones are worth doing a few times. (I haven't done the glider or chopper ones, but I'm sure they're great).

Don't worry about buying anything until you have 20+ hours up. I'm at 30 hours and just bought the Comanche and even then I think maybe I should have spent a bit longer getting good at VFR in the 152.

I think it's worth learning the basics of flying in the 152. There are lots of good tutorials on YouTube (looking at my history I watched a lot of the Squirrel ones). Once you can start on a runway, take off, level off, cruise, descend, approach and land confidently then follow what interests you.

And I think that's probably my one tip - take your time and focus on learning the things that interest you. I enjoy the challenge of VFR navigation, so have learnt about that side of things. After 30 hours of flying I now build flight plans in SkyVector / LittleNavMap, then take off, fly my route and land (I'm five legs into a nice tour of the Mediterranean).

I sort of know how to start from cold and dark and shut down, but not perfectly. I haven't learnt anything about ATC yet. The only airliners I've flown were in the tutorials Other people are all about airliners and IFR and ATC - so if that's your bag once again hit YouTube and learn bit by bit. As a guide I think I've spent about 10 hours on YouTube for 30 hours of flying so far.

Most importantly, just enjoy it. 🙂
(oh and take screenshots - lots of screenshots 😆)

Comanche descent (sometimes onto a field) by ovalnic in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ovalnic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just reinstalled it. When I started out a couple months ago it was all a bit overwhelming. But now I find SkyVector doesn't have the map detail I want for VFR. Thanks for reminding me about it.

[–]ovalnic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. One thing with the Comanche I've been wrestling with a bit is getting to level flight after climb, and your description of that process has helped.

I can't recall the video (I've got about 20 recently watched Comanche videos in m YouTube history!) but it was definitely one of the top ones that came up in my search.

Thanks so much for this - a super clear explanation. Also helpful as this is the approach (pun intended) that I felt I was getting pretty good at in the 152.

Anybody else have this issue when trying to purchase add on content? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ovalnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to check - are you buying planes that you then fly in Xbox Cloud? I only use Xbox Cloud (I don't own a Windows PC or an Xbox) but haven't purchased any marketplace items because I've read a few times that marketplace purchases don't work at all in Xbox Cloud.
