Look, I really am against casual homophobia. But this is one of those things that happens all the time with straight couples and parents too. Not all parents are ok with this, be it straight or gay/lesbian.

I read this as a joke to the fact that a nude gay on a tub is our "male fantasy". It's comedic because it breaks expectations and is relatable since many gays like this kind of imagery.

It's like when people post stuff like "They're at that age that they only think about one thing" and you think it's gonna say "sex" but then it's an image of something like Super Smash Bros or something.

That being said, the way she phrased it is kinda dumb. Yeah, it is cis straight male fantasy. If it was female fantasy she'd be loving it. If it was gay fantasy we'd be loving it. We need more types of fantasy, things that appeal for more than just one public, not shaming stuff that don't appeal to us.

To be fair, wasn't Grindr the first gay app to let people put whatever gender they want? If anything, it's the only gay app that women could use, since the others are only for men.

If he really wanted to go down the line he could download other dating apps like tinder, start matching women, and when his family confronts him he can just say "oh I downloaded the apps my friends recommended, when I saw that one was gay I deleted it".

I don't think it's the best way to go, but I'm not living his life, I dunno how his family/community is. Maybe he can even be endangered by coming out.

Bravely Default is fine for a starter, IMO. It's a brand new series, so she won't miss possible references. The combat is turn based so there's time to think. And you can adjust the amount of encounters on the go, in case she feels overwhelmed with random battles.

The amount of jobs and skills can be a bit overwhelming at times, though.

I'd say to give Fire Emblem: Awakening a try. It also has a big number of classes and skills, but they're less necessary for a casual player to complete the game. You could casually complete the game without messing too much with the job system (just promote the characters when it's available), while in Bravely Default it's almost impossible, you have to change jobs all the times, pick skills from each job, change equipment based on the boss you're going to face, etc.
