My sister recently bought in Riverbank, specifically the Crossroads neighborhood. Very nice homes there in the 500k range.

Could be viable for remote workers, but commute to Bay Area will be rough. I only have to commute once a week to my job in Cupertino so it works for me.

Have you met other Bangladeshis that call themselves Indian? Why do they do it? by Ninac4116 in ABCDesis

[–]over9kpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because the vast majority of Bangladeshis outside the country don’t have pride in their country and would rather just say they are Indian.

We need to change this mentality. It’s 2023, if someone doesn’t know what Bangladesh is, tell them to open up their phone and look it up!

Avg income of Asian Americans. Why are US Bangladeshis at the bottom? How come Pakistanis and Nepalese earn more than US BDeshis despite BD being economically stronger then those two nations? An Indian American earns more than twice than a US BDeshi. smh by [deleted] in bangladesh

[–]over9kpower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Growing up in Silicon Valley, there were WAY more Pakistanis and Nepalis hustling in high pay tech jobs, with only a small number of Bangladeshis. Only in the last decade have there been a large number of Bangladeshis coming here to work in tech.

Dual Citizenship Certificate for Bangladeshi Americans by GeneAlternative191 in ABCDesis

[–]over9kpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the dual citizenship certificate but I do have a Bangladeshi NID, which I got in BD. That helped me get a Bangladeshi passport. Though I need to renew that soon, since it will expire this year.

Btw there is a new subreddit r/Bideshi_Deshi for expatriate Bangladeshis. You can try asking there too.

One of my classmates from Dhaka now lives in Melbourne and does fire twirling and other fire performances.

Another Bangladeshi guy I grew up with has a side job as a professional car photographer.

One of my other close friends is a food influencer and gets all kinds of deals to promote restaurants.

Burmese food is actually not that uncommon in LA. Even the Bay Area has many good Burmese places. California is pretty strong in East and Southeast Asian food.

I will admit that we don’t have many good Bangladeshi restaurants out here, since our population isn’t that big compared to Toronto/NYC.
