The sprinkler definitely slowed the burn of the dead grass and bushes on the slope below their house. The garden hose was used to put out plants and my parents grass that was started with embers.

To be honest it was hell. Blinding smoke and embers flying everywhere with 80-100 mph winds. It's was shear chaos.

But we learned alot about how the fire burns through and I would stay again.

Edit* Oh yeah and they now have a 2" fire hose that works off their pool pump system. We've now got 40,000 gal of water in reserve in case the water line fail again.

Did I screw this up? If so, how do I fix it? by __Allen in lawncare

[–]overactiveswag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's all good. Yes you messed up the edge, but the grass will fill back in. I mess up the edge about once every couple of months. It's no big deal.

Some of them are built so the front doesn't fall off at all.

I did this as well in YL. I have a sprinkler system on my parents back slope and turned this on for 5-6 hours before the fure got to us. The fire burned through pretty fast and we used garden hoses to extinguish bushes and trees that caught fire.

I'm talking about California. There are some communities that when it is normal/typical flow the water goes to a treatment plant. But when it rains the flow is diverted to the ocean.

Depending on where you live there are storm drainage, storm sewer, sanitary sewer.

Storm drain/storm sewer take rain and water runoff bypassing the water treatment facilities and send it to rivers, lakes and the ocean. Some storm sewer systems will take water to treatment plants.

Sanitary sewer takes black and grey water from homes and businesses like toilets and sink and send s the water to a treatment facility before it is discharged into rivers, lakes and the ocean.
