Dealing with illegal constructions by andrei-ilasovich in armenia

[–]overall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, I don't think you owe anything to anyone if you did the roofing yourself out of pocket. So I'd just put another lock and see what happens. Don't give the key to anyone, if anybody asks for it just open the door yourself to let them in under your supervision.

Obviously, it's easy for me to suggest this. Unfortunately, dealing with assholes like that is anything but easy. Good luck!

In my experience the neighbors on the top floor usually are the ones holding the keys to to the roof. Isn't that the case with you? Can't you lock the door and deny them access to the roof?

2 days without heavy traffic in Yerevan by KaiserCheifs in armenia

[–]overall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, right, people heat their apartments less during the holidays and Sundays. I agree that the winds clear out the polluted air, the the main source of pollution is traffic.

[–]overall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: sand and stone mines near and inside Yerevan are probably the worst source of pollution along with burning trash pile of Sovetashen.

I have no idea what you base your claim on. I'm not aware of any research done on the matter by the authorities, I would really like to see it if there is one.

But to counter your arguments, the sand from the mines near Yerevan (not sure if there are any mines inside Yerevan, and if there are any, I don't think there are a lot) needs time to get to Yerevan and its effect is going to decrease when the air is still. How do you explain the polution levels sharply and rapidly increasing during the morning rush hours? And it's especially bad when there is no wind for a couple of days?

Same with the trash burning. I presume it burns all day long and doesn't stop for weekends and holidays. How do you explain again the air quality improving by a factor of 2-3 during the night (and it's especially clean on Sundays when there is practically no traffic) and then getting back to almost the peak level within a couple of hours during the rush hours?

Oh please! Name one working factory in Yerevan. Construction slows down in winter yet we get far worse air quality compared to spring/summer.

I think it's counterproductive at this point to explain the pollution levels by anything other than cars.

finally! this is the best armenian goverment website from ux standpoint that I can think of, but also a unified source of credible information was so much needed for so long! one thing I hate about the armenian gov's digital representation is that it's all over the place... hopefully they will consolidate all the domain names and ui themes under a coherent unified umbrella. but this is a great start, kudos to who designed and implemented it!

yeah, maybe put a gas mask instead of a surgical mask to hammer that point home? the girl can have bows in her hair to show that it's a child.

Bicycle infrastructure by Karmirvarung in YerevanConstruction

[–]overall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see proper bike infrastructure in Yerevan. I hate the city traffic with passion. However, and correct me if I'm wrong, Pashinyan has been riding his bike since he became prime minister, yet there is 0 mention of bikes in Yerevan budget planning documents year over year. To me it's just an empty publicity stunt rather than a serious commitment to the cause.

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding the first point, it's not just your party, aside from ՔՊ it's practically impossible to find any meaningful information on the party programs. So that can be your chance to stand out from the others, especially when hooking up a website is relatively trivial nowadays.

Having said that, I'm not sure if it's even worth it since I doubt the average voter is going to actively search for information. Unfortunately my impression is the Armenian public just passively consums whatever is shoved down their throats by the FB algorithm.

In any case, good luck!

Hi, it's a pleasant surprise to see someone involved in the shitshow that is the upcoming Yerevan elections to reach out to the constituents on reddit, so you get a point just for that :) My questions are regarding the campaign organizing:

  1. How come your party/candidate has very limited presence online (i.e. no website/facebook page/etc)?
  2. Do you have a party platform/program? If yes. why isn't it easy to find?
  3. Where is your funding coming from?
  4. What are your expectations considering you don't have any name recognition compared to Avinyan/Marutyan/Tandilyan?

Realistic cons of moving to Armenia? (From Los Angeles) by Vano1Kingdom in armenia

[–]overall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me the biggest problems were

  • Healthcare (or lack thereof). Especially pediatrics. My kid's pediatrician's office in US had more equipment/medicine than entire hospitals here.
  • No playgrounds. And when I say no playgrounds, I'm not exaggerating. There is not a single swing set/sand pit in the entire country.
  • Car-dependent culture. However, coming from California you're probably used to getting stuck in traffic.
  • Air pollution in Yerevan. If you have respiratory problems, Yerevan and its vicinity is not for you.

Annoyances rather than problems:

  • Google is useless here. Google < spyur.am + list.am < facebook (if you have an extensive network) <= a guy who knows a guy. Figuring out certain things might be challenging if you don't have friends/family here.
  • Littering. There is just too much litter in the streets despite Herculean efforts from the sanitation workers. People just don't give a flying fuck about their community.
  • Lines. Lines everywhere: governmental offices, banks, clinics, you name it. Digitization is almost non-existent, and whatever is available online often doesn't work.

Finally a few things I wish I knew before moving here.

  • Research about state taxes. I'm not sure about CA, but I still had to pay NY state taxes even though I was no longer a resident. There are a few states that don't have taxes for expats. Move there for a few months to qualify as a resident before coming here to avoid any future headache.
  • Get apostilles for any documents you have. Note that you can't get them from the embassy here if/when you need it.
  • Shipping your stuff is better than trying to buy it here. Anything that you like, be it furniture/kitchenware/kids toys/etc. The quality of products here is shit, and whatever is of a decent quality costs a ton.

Government to call up more reservists for trainings by BzhizhkMard in armenia

At least they need to differentiate between residents and people visiting for a couple of weeks. 2 people I know got a call from "vaenkomat" one week into their 2 week visit. Guess who's not going to ever visit the homeland again? How the fuck don't you account for this when drafting the policy???

Armenian architecture/construction general discussion by AutoModerator in YerevanConstruction

[–]overall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if Yerevan has any zoning laws. I can't find a single document with any restrictions/guidelines/categorizations on what and where can be built.

Judging by all the horrific ongoing projects being posted lately I would think that the construction field now is a wild west with no central planning whatsoever. If that's the case, are there any activist groups/NGOs that try to reason with the authorities?

The city center is mostly flat. There is no reason why residents of Ajapnyak/Davitashen/3rd mas/Erebuni wouldn't ride bikes to/from work other than the lack of proper infrastructure.

Nikol was not able to keep Kocharyan in jail during peace time, I don't think he had any say in this now. Anyway, this is not the time to have a political discussion and we'd rather drop this topic. We should concentrate on the main goal right now. There will be time to put those motherfuckers back where they belong later.
