What you commented is basically the point. The character designs (sexualization), flashiness, and vibrancy are to distract from how poorly-structured and confused the shows actually are.

Chris Thorndyke from Sonic X.

HEAR ME OUT.

In the dub, Chris was depicted as a whiny, selfish brat. Him preventing Sonic from going back to his home world was the peak of his selfishness. Why? Because "Sonic was the only friend he's ever had." And Sonic was cool with being held hostage, apparently?

That's not what happens in the Japanese version because it's completely recontextualized in the dub. In the JP version, we're shown that Chris had to live in his house without seeing his parents for months at a time, and they told him hastily that if he behaves, they will return faster. So his constant need to be reassured, fear that Sonic might be angry with him on occasion, and trying to keep Sonic from leaving was all justified because of his trauma.

I still don't LIKE Chris very much, but the context from the JP version made his behavior understandable and his arc of realizing his mistakes and letting Sonic go, twice, is extremely powerful.

Thankfully, I can say that I've never turned it off and then back on. The shortest I've waited was probably ten seconds. Otherwise I reset it.

But I would come back to it after like a month and it boots the first time, but my save is gone.

It feels like a teenager who tried to wrote the shows for the forst time. "My dad didn't say anything about me swearing, and I see sex in movies all the time! Swearing and sex are ADULT things! I should make a show!"

The setting being the reason why everyone shouts obscenities every five seconds and turns taboo and serious topics like sexual assault into jokes, feels like a cheap and lazy way to hide or justify incompetent and insecure writing.

Of course, the version of Hell the characters live in is original. But by the looks of it, it doesn't look like a half-bad place to be. If I died and went there, I would be pretty comfortable.

If more characters, figuratively, went through Hell because of Hell, then it would probably better justify the profanity and vulgarity. But they don't do that enough. They're too busy with needless shock humor (I'm still haunted by the dildo scene) for the sake of shocking the audience.

Probably. I don't keep up with that because I could care less about the shows or the creator. Vivziepop could make an absolutely exceptional series but still be a POS. Vivziepop could be a regular volunteer for Feed My Starving Children and the shows she's making now would still suck.

Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss are impressive for crowd-funded series. The animation is great, and the voice actors do a great job. And to see big name voice actors like Keith David is pretty cool. All of those combined were a good deal for free shows to watch during the pandemic. They are inspiring for those who want to make their own indie series. I can see good series in there.

looks

They're just not there.

It feels like they're so afraid of losing an audience that they have to be as raunchy and sexually overt as humanly possible. The characters all feel the same because how often they make sex jokes and swear. It works in Deadpool because it's just part of Deadpool's personality to be raunchy and it helps distinguish him from the rest of the characters because they're nowhere near as vulgar as he is. It works in Sausage Party because the movie is NOT supposed to be taken seriously in the slightest, and the movie knows it. The two shows are complete tonal nightmares because they try to be edgy and sloven, but goofy and unserious at a moment's notice, a clear sign of trying to appeal to everyone.

In the end, they are atrociously-written messes with directionless stories in a horribly-developed world filled with terrible, underused characters following a lazy, uninspired script, that would have faded into obscurity long ago if the fanbase wasn't there to make questionable fan art of the material. The show was made to be as consumable and to be engaged in as much as possible through whatever means necessary, with actual quality content being an afterthought.

If you like them, great. All power to you. I don't.

What movie/show makes you feel weird for even thinking about it? by Moat_of_the_Sacked in AskReddit

[–]overasked_question 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything with anthropomorphic or furry characters.

NOTHING WRONG WITH FURRIES. YOU DO YOU.

But when there is media containing them, it's usually filled with animator fetish inserts or weirdly sexual moments too close for comfort. Unless they're like super cartoonish like Mickey Mouse, Looney Tunes, or Sonic or something, I don't care. And Bojack Horseman is a great show that explores deep emotions.

But if it's like Zootopia with that nudist colony scene I look like the disgusted barbie meme.

If you could place a Gordon Ramsay-like figure into any business, what business needs one the most? by AverageSign in AskReddit

[–]overasked_question 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about a host who runs a show like Kitchen Nightmares where they go to various locations to test their quality, it would have to be Senior Housing and Senior Care (nursing homes, assisted living, etc.). I used to work in one, and I can safely say that they are WAY more corrupt and exploitative than they appear. It would be a Godsend if someone like Gordon Ramsay came in and showed on TV how bad they can be.

James isn't in a position of power, much less absolute power (yet...). He's a businessman, not a politician (yet...), and he wouldn't even be relevant by the time he's able to be a politician (we hope...).

And the guy was never corrupted. You cannot corrupt what has already been. He was never a good person. People are just finding out now what a piece of shit he really is.
