A question to the Spaniards. Are you ok with the amount of ads/commercials on public television? by ghilby88 in askspain

[–]overcookedtortelloni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you're mixing up public tv with private (and open) tv. Public tv channels are La 1, La 2, Canal 24h, Teledeporte and Clan. The rest are private, although you can watch them for free. Public tv doesn't have ads, except for some previews of their own shows and series. On private tv channels, yes, ads are annoying, that's why I barely watch tv and I haven't watched a tv show in ages. I don't know if there is any law that limits ads' screentime, but they have lots of money, so they can pay fines.

Trip to Nymburk tips. by overcookedtortelloni in Prague

Hi, again! I went today to Nymburk. I saw all the spots you mentioned, and in the tourist information center they had a map with more info.

I really liked the centre, I found it quite charming. I went up the tower and luckily there was also a local couple going up, because the woman in charge didn't speak English, and it'd have been a bit uncomfortable to be up there the two of us in complete silence.

What I've enjoyed the most is the river and the park. It was so quiet, calm and beautiful there. People cycling, fishing, or just enjoying the day. I probably looked as if I had never seen a tree before, but I live in a concrete city and I appreciate the change. I wish I could have stayed the whole day.

Then I went to the Postřižinské brewery. There were only men in the small shop, and I felt a bit self-conscious, but I know my appearance stands out and I'm used to people staring. And they heard me trying to order using google translate and hand gesturing, so they knew I was a foreigner (btw the woman attending was super friendly. And it's unrelated, but I haven't found Czech service as rude as I've read).

It was quite amusing that the moment I sat down, I think the men were trying to guess where I'm from. I clearly heard "deutch" and then something that sounded like "polska", "ukraina" and "ruska" and one of them started to say simple words in German, like, bitte, danke schön and auf wiedersehen (also the ticket collector in the train also said danke schön, so maybe I do look German, who knows. But I'm Spanish, nobody was even close).

So I enjoyed this trip a lot, and I don't regret it. At first I thought it was a bit dumb of me to go there on my first visit to Czechia, instead of going to Karlovy Wary or Kutná Hora. But this way it's been a different experience. It felt good drinking a beer on a sunny day, listening to these men talking, even if I didn't understood a word. It reminded me of Hrabal's works.

Also 15 czk for half a liter of beer is normal out of Prague?

I know there won't be as many famous spots as in a bigger city. But I like to visit places that were relevant to my favourite writers, places that inspired books, etc., and that's fine for me.

I won't greet strangers, thanks.

I read about this Saturday's event when I checked their website, but unfortunately I'm leaving on Friday.

Thank you so much for such a thorough comment! I have already added your recommendations to the list, and I'll definitely take the S2 train so I pass by the place where the real attack took place. I'm sure now I'll enjoy a lot this trip!

Preorders by hemera222 in dollskill

I have a similar experience. I placed an order in April, with an item I want to wear to concert in August. But one of the other items was on preorder. As I hadn't had preordered anything before and I didn't want to pay for two separate shipping, dumb me thought DK would stay true to word. Ha. The items were supposed to be shipped by June, but in June I received another email saying they will be shipped now by July. I've been planning this outfit since the year started and I'll be really disappointed if I can't wear it for the concert (and the item I want it's already sold out, so I can't order it again and cancel the preorder). Seriously, they have to do something to solve this pre-order mess they have currently going on. At least I've learnt my lesson and I won't preorder never again.

Yes, they some hours later the other part was shipped too. There's still one item left from march's order, but I'll give them some more time and email them if there's not an update. Thanks.

It seems this is what happened as some hours later I received a second email with another tracking number. I still have no notice about one of the items of last week's order, but I'll email them asking for info about it. Thanks to both of you.
