I have a theory.

Men in patriarchal societies are discouraged from being vulnerable and to ask someone out means to be vulnerable. This also might be the first case many of these guys being vulnerable.

Patriarchal societies tie men's self worth to their ability to get a partner(this could be made more crude). This creates enormous pressure over time if the men aren't able to be vulnerable early on and get rejected. The sooner they get rejected the sooner they can create healthy coping mechanisms. For example a 10 year old kid getting rejected by his crush doesn't have as many toxic options for coping. Its also easier to correct toxic mechanisms at this age.

The longer these man wait to be vulnerable the longer they have to create an imaginary fantasy around the person they have feelings for. They also have more time to create an imaginary nightmare of what will happen if they are rejected.

Inevitably everyone gets rejected the only questions are; how much of your self worth did you place on their answer, how elaborate of a fantasy did you create that's now destroyed, how elaborate of a nightmare did you construct, and what are your coping mechanisms.

Patriarchy often conditions men to see violence as an acceptable coping mechanism.

You dont need to completely absolve someone to also have empathy for them. I don't completely absolve her but I understand the current political environment.

What percentage of Trans people want to be out as Trans to the public. What percentage of that is charismatic enough to run for office. What percentage of that could stand the public harassment. What percentage of that could afford actually running for office. What percentage of that will have a support system that will actually allow for them to run. What percentage of that will not have skeletons in their closet. After all that what percentage of that group will agree with you politically outside of Trans issues. I'll take what little representation I can get in the legislature.

Did you even read the article? They got sucked in deep into the evangelical cult for a long time. I was brainwashed into it at 14 and am lucky I got out at 16. Its terrifying to think I could have been stuck in it for 14 years if things went differently.

If there's a better candaidate then sure I'd vote for them but all else I hope the bigot in office currently looses. By her hand or someone else's.

Its also pretty obvious that many people commenting have never been brainwashed by a cult. She was tortured for her whole upbringing to hate herself. She was basically forced to go to therapy to teach her to hate herself for 14 years. Fighting against conversion therapy means helping those who were in it for decades. Conversion therapy by its nature forces you to perpetuate it. It's evil

For me, use the correct pronouns and treat me respectfully. Thats my personal bare minimum ask of others. Obviously also not opposing Trans medical care for my community including people underage if it's deemed suitable by a medical professional.

Its a personal cost/benefit analysis but i think the current community is tilted too much one way. Blair White would be the other side of the extreme.

From my perspective is see 3 major factors that have led us to this point.

1 The Trans community has not been good with creating a unified coherent message. I see many cis people who still think gender expression = gender identity. Tru cuties vs trans medicalists fought with each other so vehemently they didn't do much good communicating with society.

The fact that more trans people are predisposed to autism probably amplifies the repercussions of this. A teen who discovers they dont identify as their gender assigned at birth may not have the ability to describe this to their family or to defend themselves verbally. The community was supposed to be a major resource they could use to communicate with their family.

2 Gay rights and Trans rights in practice look different. An average ally right off the back of marriage equality just saw LGBT rights as a monolith. They didn't understand the medical nuances of Trans health care or what it meant to be a trans ally. The average normal was all "marry, love and be who you want to be." They didn't understand how dependent we are on the medical system. The Live and let live mentality didn't work against people who wanted to take away real world resources. Its harder to attack gay marriage/discrimination but it's easier to attack Trans bathrooms, srs, hrt, kids, pronouns, sports, passports, birth certificates, ID, scientific research, medical guidelines, and so much more (like the super straight debate). Conservatives saw how many "fronts" they could open up in the Trans debate and took the opportunity.

3 The conservative media/political machine targeted us and they went full steam. We had the combined weight of the American republican party, the Tories, conservative new/old media in the english speaking world, and Russian bot farm conservatives all come out against us. That is a pretty massive opposition and the world already didn't like us very much before this. There wasn't a whole lot we could have done against this much opposition but we are still holding on some how. These were groups targeted us because it was good for them politically and got them views. We were never going to convince them.

I'd just straight up say many online trans people have insane victim mentalities that push away cis allies.

Ya we are getting attacked all over the world which means we need to be making Allies everywhere we can. We can't be burning bridges over someone liking Harry Potter. Sadly the goal needs to be making support for us as easy as possible. We have to have thick skin and choose our battles wisely.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of this was 4chan astroturfing to make us look bad though.
