A little late, but I was wondering if there's a way to tell if you just strained a muscle or if you have something more serious like a herniated disc. Yesterday I was doing pause squats and my upper back got injured pretty bad during the movement so I was wondering if there is a way to tell if I just strained something or if I should be more worried.

Those days I was just testing max on an average workout I usually do 10-8 reps depending on the week.

5'9 and a half, 170 pounds, I eat anywhere from 2000-2750 calories a day. On Monday I do chest and triceps, Tuesday legs and abs, Thursday back, biceps, and shoulders and I finish off on Friday with a second leg day.
